....but to me evolution is completely directed and unrandom when you look at it in the long run. It's ever expanding into greater complexity. Also, if we truly have free will isn't God using random chance in the short term even though his long term goal is certain?

I'd compare evolution as a similar process to the one Edison used to create the light bulb. He came up with thousands of failed designs before he came across the one that worked. The process was random yet directed at the same time.

So, who or what do you believe is doing the directing?

God. By selection. This can be seen in the Bible. God creates people. All people fail to do his purpose except for Noah so he discards what doesn't work and selects the "lightbulb" that does. If God wasn't using random chance and probability why would he create things that could fail?

Relying on Bible to give a scientifically valid explanation of evolutionary processes is like relying on Darwin to do the same.

The fact is we don't know yet how species evolved.

Though evolutionary theory has come along way since Darwin, especially with the discovery of particulate inheritance and genetics, Darwin did an incredibly good job outlining the evolutionary process and the major tenets that he described are still believed to be true to this day. There is no comparison between the bible and Darwin. The bible is a collection of myths concocted by desert tribesman and Darwin was an excellent scientist who used many facts and reliable observations to come to the correct conclusion that species arise through the preservation of favored races in the struggle for existence. So basically yes we do know how species evolved and we have known it since 1859.

Evolved is probably a poor choice of words here, may I recommend; The fact is we don't know yet how species came about. :D

You have no more proof of this; The bible is a collection of myths concocted by desert tribesman, than you have of this; Darwin was an excellent scientist who used many facts and reliable observations to come to the correct conclusion that species arise through the preservation of favored races in the struggle for existence. :D

Regardless of whether you accept his conclusions you cannot deny that Darwin was a scientist who came up with a hypothesis based on accepted facts and reliable observations to explain how species arise. By 'reliable observations' I mean things that fair and competent judges can go out in the world and observe for themselves. By saying that he based his hypothesis on facts I mean he wasn't relying on stories or opinions, for example he studied various accepted truths about animal breeding to arrive at various conclusions. The bible is a collection of stories, and it was written by tribesman living in the desert during the bronze age. Even if you accept the bible as truth you can't deny that it is a book, that there are stories in it, and that it was written by tribesman during the bronze age. These are not controversial claims. Even if you disagree with Darwin's conclusions you can't deny that it is not a story, but rather a rational for a particular hypothesis, and that the hypothesis was generated by use of the scientific method. These claims should not be regarded as controversial either, setting aside completely whether the bible contains truth or whether Darwin was right.

We get the impression of failure because we misconstrue the principles of life.
No greater love has a man than he give his life. The 990 eggs that do not reach maturity from a spawn of 1,000 preform selflessly the task of giving life. Each and everyone of those eggs represent a constituent in the system of life. I watched a nature program once. There was a scene in the high latitudes and the nests were full of chicks and the scene inspired a sympathy and I think how wonderful. Then approaches a fox and proceeds to snatch chick after chick until he can snatch no more and I think how sad and in the next scene the fox comes to its' den with the mouth chock full of dead and dying chicks and out bound from the den a raucous gaggle of pups and I think, how wonderful indeed! I am unaware of a time when I was not, which is the same for all of us and the reason for the debate on abortion. We find ourselves of unknown origin by virtue of tales told to us of our birth and of an afterlife, retold at the time of our death and it is all a mystery to us. Why do we question the only thing we have ever known? I am. We have never been in danger of loosing our inheritence.

What I don't understand is why people can not accept chaos as an agent of a spiritual universe. Because life is ultimately more miraculous when considering it arose out of violent and chaotic circumstances. It's like people never heard of yin and yang.

Perhaps they don't accept it because they don't believe it's true. :D

Oh, really? Interesting? Where did you check them at? :D

    Okay, here's what you said:
Let's just look at your statement; "The bible is a collection of stories, and it was written by tribesman living in the desert during the bronze age. Even if you accept the bible as truth you can't deny that it is a book, that there are stories in it, and that it was written by tribesman during the bronze age. These are not controversial claims."

Now you say the Bible was written during the Bronze age. Okay, let's look at that.

It is generally accepted that the Bronze Age in the Ancient Near East was (3300–1200 B.C.E.)

    Bible was written from 1513 B.C.E. to 98 C.E.

So you're part right, 7 of the 66 books of the Bible, those written by Moses were written during the Bronze Age. So 90% of the Bible was not written during the Bronze age and in fact the entire Christian Greek Scriptures were written during the Common Era, A.D. if you will.

So with this statement you are only 10% right, hardly a ringing endorsement of your "facts".

Now how about the "Tribesmen living in the desert" part of your "facts"?

You seem to be implying that uneducated herdsmen wrote the Bible, although I believe the Bible was authored by God, let's look at it from your viewpoint.

Some books of the Bible, were written down by herdsmen but uneducated? They did know how to read and write, something not always common B.C.E.

Now let's look at just the part of the Bible written during the Bronze Age.

As I mentioned, Moses wrote those 7 books, let's see if he was a uneducated herdsman. Moses was raised as a Son of the Pharaoh in the city of the Pharaoh at the time that Egypt was a world power and considered one of the most advanced countries of the world. Thus having been raised and educated in one of the most cosmopolitan cities of the ancient world, I would not consider him a uneducated herdsman.

Also some of the others who wrote the Bible were Kings, a doctor, a lawyer and a tax collector, once again hardly a group of uneducated "Tribesmen living in the desert".

And that's not even touching on what you said about Darwin and evolution.

"As I mentioned, Moses wrote those 7 books,"

How do we know Moses wrote those 7 books?

Why would he speak of himself in the third person?

Of course God is the true author of the Bible but there is no question as to who wrote Genesis. “The book of the law of Moses” and similar references to the first five books of the Bible, of which Genesis is one, are to be found often from the time of Moses’ successor, Joshua, onward. In fact, there are some 200 references to Moses in 27 of the later Bible books. Moses’ writership has never been questioned by the Jews. The Christian Greek Scriptures make frequent mention of Moses as the writer of “the law,” the crowning testimony being that of Jesus Christ. Moses wrote at Jehovah’s direct command and under His inspiration.—Ex. 17:14; 34:27; Josh. 8:31; Dan. 9:13; Luke 24:27, 44.
Who knows? Perhaps it's because he is just writing down what the true author of the Bible, God is telling him to but in any case many people write and speak of themselves in the third person.

Darwinists Believe the Darndest Things and then they make fun of Creationists, what an irony!

At least Creationists honestly admit that their theory originates in religion and thus by definition has nothing to do with the science, even if they don't state so.

But look at these hoax perpetrating darwinists who not only make the most absurd and baseless of all claims ever known to mankind ("the most primitive single cell archaic organism has evolved into homo sapience in a matter of few billion years by means of random chance and natural selection") but they also dare to insist that such a claim has anything to do with Science!
And what they have to prove their claim? Oh, that mythical mountain of evidence, so tall and huuuuge that nobody feels the need to present any of it into record!
Munchausen would be proud of these people!

What an irony, what an irony !!!
