Is it not weird that the roots are so long though? I hate the sectioning and how visible the "boxes" are. Is it just me still being vain about my hair?

Also, at the nape of my neck I still have completely loose hairs that never dreaded. Enough to make like 3 dreads if I formed them but I haven't touched it cause all the other dreads formed on their own I just assumed they would form there, too. But it's just really long undreaded hair after a YEAR! Would you leave it alone?

My brother had a whole mess of long, loose hair all on the underside of his hair (around ears, neck, etc) that remained that way for well over a year. It was just recently noticeable that it was starting to form little dreadies.

As for me (four months-mind you) the underside of my hair seems to be dreading the quickest. I did have one spot near my ear that was just a mass of loose hair, so I for some reason wrapped it up with hemp twine for a few days and it was much more knotted and sectioned when I took it off.

I do but not on top so much as I do on the back, sides and underneath. I get loose hairs right up front as well. Totally undreaded hairs are up front shaping my face.

Yeh Seth - I HAVEN'T done anything to them. I TOOK THE WAXED SET DOWN AND STARTED OVER if you paid any attention at all

HERE - Scroll down to Oct 14, 2008 and SEE for yourself where I took the waxed dreads down COMPLETELY with the exception of like 4 at the nape of my neck.

keazy - they were sectioned a little with a handful of hair wraps to keep them separate for a couple weeks that was it. You can look right above your post for a link to the whole shabang that includes pics of a REALLY bad start and the total undreading and starting over from scratch going natural ;)

hmm, I think those wraps you used after you took the wax out sectioned your hair weirdly and contributed to the long roots.

hm, I know there are beads/wraps I had in for only a few weeks that definitely caused changes in texture and formation of the dread... so I think it could definitely have contributed since they were close to the roots. I think the fineness of your hair also plays a part because it's not kinky/curly near the roots.

Yeh it's weird, my hair is naturally curly but it has never curled at the root, always like an inch down.
