Hey, I was wondering if anyone had some good info, or sites about american indian spirituality. I know J. Morrison was really into it and im just curious as to what its all about. ~Thanks
It depends on the nation. Souix spirituality is not Ojibwa spirituality is not Cherokee spirituality. At best you can do a regional study (Great Lakes, Southwest...). Anyways, check out your library, they'll probably have something general to give you an idea about what you want to know.
ok , dream into it , but walk into it for real touching the earth all the way Autobigraphy of A Hopi Chief
A good book that deals with native american spirituality and it's relevance to ecological/environmental balance and the problems faced today concerning these issues is "In the Absence of the Sacred: The Failure of Technology and the Survival of the Indian Nations." by Jerry Mander. Much more than a historical/theological account of the Indian Nations, so it might be info overkill regarding your request. But I believe it gives much insight into the way native cultures functioned and interacted with their environments. Their spirituality is directly based on their ways of life and their surroundings, so it could provide you with some useful info.
asking about "native american spirituality" is like asking about Hindu spirituality. there are so many diffferent ways of approaching and understanding the divine, and things varry from culture to culture and person to person. as far as learning more, i'd go for books by contemporarty native americans on their spirituality, not sociological over views written from a white perspective (which tend to depict native spirituality as anything but vibrant and living, which it is).
