if you want change to occur now - the easiest method would be to remove all luxury from peoples life. this gives them an oppurtunity to become the warriors neccessary for change. i guess mutation is a rather slow process -so one could argue, do nothing but wait. However, docters already "fix" those with some mutation ( removing of extra digits ) and tech has gotten to the point were babys can be geneticly engineered. I belive change through mutation is out - as powers at be have found a way to halt it. The next option would be peacful protests. it worked in India. Course, The British were vastly outnumbered, an on forgien soil. The line of warfare was clearly draw between British people and Indian people. We don't really have a clear enemy. in fact, we may be our own worst enemy. Simply because we hold onto our belongings like they are important, while we spout off about saving the world. Do we blame the people making the luxury items? Do we blame ourselves for not seeing these items as chains? I don't even know what I'd change - what grand design the ship of change should sail to. That would probably be the first step - otherwize you'd burn everything down before you realized change had been achieved. And society would have to start over again..... Which is, another viable option
Abbie had some serious depression issues. Because of all of the drugs? Who knows. Abbie's depression killed him. He didn't kill himself.
You have to start with yourself and become aware of the kind of footprint you're leaving. What do you eat? How do you travel? How much fossil fuel based power do you use? How much of the consumerist mentality do you subscribe to? How much do you put things ahead of people? How much do you allow the media to contaminate your mind? How much have you compromised your dreams in order to make a buck and keep up appearances? How often do you allow yourself to blow up at people or pick at them behind their backs? Awareness is rare and awareness of the consequences of actions is rarer. Changing yourself changes the world. Try it and see.
There are many things to do.......you just have to pick one...or several. For example.....are you in college getting a degree? We need engineers to solve our energy problems so that we can live using conservation, solar, wind, geothermal, and other low-impact energy means. How about organic farming? We use so many pesticides now that it is starting to accumulate everywhere in the environment. We need a new generation of farmers to do larger scale organic farming. I am not going to delve into the politics because there are differing opinions on that one...I personally am Libertarian and want a very small government with much freedom while others want Obama or the Republicans with more government. But I dont know what that does one way or the other. It didnt change much in the last 50 years having Republicans or Democrats half of the time. Anyhow, there's two ideas...I am sure you can think of a thousand more.
Everyone has to do what they can. I became a teacher because I loved children and because I wanted them to know it was possible to be happy and creative and loving, even with all the bad things in the world. You carry your hippie ideals inside you. I think the world has changed very much since the 60's. Some of it good, some of it bad. That's the way it is, but it's not a reason to stop being loving and kind
There are none so blind as those who refuse to see^ You obviously dont know what your talking about so now would be a good time not to talk about what you do not know Ever head fof Civil Rights?!? well you wouldnt have any if it were not for us old babyboomer hippies.
I agree, The U.S. is not what it once was and that this generation needs to wake up but they need to choose wise ways to stand up and be an individual. I encourage my children to show their individuality and to not mold themselves into what everyone wants them to be but it has caused trouble. They are singled out at school as being stoners or druggies due to their chosen style of dress. In fact, the principal at my son's school tried to force him to shave his head due to his haircut. Once I dealt with that problem she began attacking his choice of clothing. He wanted to lead a walkout or sit in at the school but that would have only led to his being expelled which is what she wanted in the first place. They don't have to follow the establishment but the youth of today do need to find smarter ways of beating the establishment.
