Well i have been wanting to work at a snow resort this winter, basically filling out all the applications i can (to the places i have been to) and i think it would be a chill ass job to work as a ski lift operator. Snowboarding is like my favorite thing, and i'm not the best with people, but i think i would get better people skills if i applied to be a snowboard instructor. I think it might be fun, but it might be tedious and/or annoying. I am a very fair patient person though. It seems like it could be a pretty simple job especially teaching beginners what do you think?
if i lived in colorado or something i would do that, no doubt. but sadly i live in texas i snowboarded 4 days 2 spring breaks ago, it was so amazing
I was a ski instructor for a while. I'm actually thinking about doing it again as a part time gig a couple nights a week this winter again. Just know that odds are as a first time instructor they will probably stick you with small children, which can be a handful but can also be loads of fun as well. Stay away from being a liftie though. Nothing worse than loading lifts for everyone as they get to ride a powder day while you get stuck working.
I was thinking about it as well, in a couple of years from now mind. I think you should go for it then, of course. Where do you want to do it? I was looking at Fernie.
Yeah i don't really care as long as they have a big mountain, like i said i'm filling out a bunch of applications. I just want to work at a snow resort either way, but i was just thinking it might be really cool doing this.
I had friends that were snowboard instructors they spent their copious spare time building ramps and rails and getting better at snowboarding, pretty much the best people to snowboard with. If you become an instructor I'm going to that resort.
I've worked as a lifty in Ontario and in BC. It's a boring ass job, but easy and you meet some cool people. The place in BC I was working at let us bring our boards to keep by the lift, and if it wasn't busy we could take runs which made the day go alot faster.
yeah 4 sure doctor gonzo i'll keep it updated. And yeah i didn't expect the lift operator job to be fun, i just want a job and simple is nice but yeah i just need to snowboard and need to make money so ya.
Usually a job at a mountain comes with a free membership which is a pretty sweet perk. I might go back to my lifty job here, but the "mountain" really sucks, I only boarded there once last year despite having a free pass. It's like 200 vertical feet and the longest run will take like 10-20 seconds depending on skill and conditions.
