SSRI's will greatly decrease the effects of serotonergic psychedelics, like LSD, psilocybin, DMT, etc. if that's what you're asking.
i have been on both prozac and lexapro and have tripped mushrooms and lsd and have seen no diminished effects
there have been studies. i think some of them are posted on erowid. SSRIs and most reuptake inhibitors will decrease the effects of serotonergic psychedelics. most antidepressants work by causing a chemical rebalancing in your brain. it forces you to adhere to a certain chemical makeup in your brain. psychedelics on the other hand tend to just rewire your brain in any way you want. i guess that if you had a profound enough trip then it would restructure the chemicals in your brain just like antidepressants would, except in a less forceful way. i have always felt like SSRIs work by decreasing your emotion. while psychedelics work by increasing your emotion! theyre almost like polar opposites.
The first time I tried acid I thought it wouldn't work because it was only one hit and I'd been on 20 mg of Celexa for a few months. Even though I didn't think I'd feel anything due to all of the Internet hearsay, I skipped a dose of the Celexa for good measure... I was wrong! Very wrong! I tripped ballz. Intense visual and auditory hallucinations, just as intense as my non-drugged friends who were tripping. The next time I tripped, I tripped with a guy on Zoloft and we both tripped hard from one hit, and he said it was the same as when he didn't take the Zoloft. Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if the whole SSRI thing is a myth perpetuated to keep "crazy people" from using acid and getting even crazier. ?
The thing is " How " do you know you all tripped as hard ? i mean yeh you tripped out when you were on a course of ssri's, but maybe for those who dont take these prescribed drugs there brains might be far more open to lsd etc ... you just would'nt know unless you had done a test while on and fully off the ssri's ... And you doing acid for the first time allready on an ssri .. so you wouldnt know if the drug had " more " potential anyway .. Just my view dude ...
yeah i know what you're saying, but i kept hearing that the effects would be greatly diminished, and from just one hit no more than 100 mics, i have a hard time believing this...it was more intense than my 1/8 of shoorms, pre-ssri trip. also, my friend who tripped the first time on zoloft said he was tripping hard so...
My most intense acid trip was while i was on 20mg lexapro could have just been damn good acid but ive never tripped that hard in my life even after ive been off SSRI's. To be honest even taking MDMA while on SSRI's i didnt notice any diminished effects.
i took an eighth of mushies when i was taking prozac and tripped harder than i ever tripped off mushies
it is slightly hard to be able to differentiate the effects if you have been taking antidepressants at all. i mean i'm sure that there are exceptions, but as a general rule of thumb the stereotypical antidepressant will decrease the effects of hallucinogens. "One would want to say that the hallucinogenic response occurs because of 5-HT-2 stimulation and therefore there was down-regulation of 5-HT-2 sites following serotonin-selective antidepressants and MAO inhibitors, thus leading to elimination of the hallucinogenic response." http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/maois/maois_info4.shtml not that i don't believe you guys, but i tend to trust erowid a little bit more. especially considering when i took antidepressants myself it had an almost anti-psychedelic effect. it really did make my trips less far out.
Why do so many people on this forum take or have taken antidepressants? Dr.'s must pass out scripts like candy on halloween. But I'm a criminal because I smoke the occasional reefer. This country's (USA) view of drugs is soooooo fucked up it makes me so angry. Damn!!!:toetap05: I better go take a valium or zanax now!! :chillpill:
they do pass them out like candy... and then they point out your flaws and justify themselves in their tyranny. oh how helpful precription drugs are when you think your CrAZy! rather than seeing issues, life circumstance, or underlying baggage, all they see is chemical imbalance -- mental disorders -- and precribe drugs to balance everything out -- because that is the only tool they have. it's like trying to change a tire with a hammer. fucking retarded. you tell someone there is something wrong with them for so long and eventually they start to believe you. makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. it's just disgusting.
