This is from the FAQ on Erowid: "When DXM is taken in divided doses, or when it is taken with an inhibitor of the P450-2D6 enzyme (e.g., fluoxetine), its sigma agonist activity becomes much stronger in comparison to its effect at the NMDA receptor". do you think that "divided doses" means a dose every 10-20 minutes over the course of an hour or two, or a dose every few hours?

I have noticed that my trips are significantly different when i dose everything at once compared to when i slowly take my dose over the course of an hour or so (for example, when i take it quickly i tend to have more OEV's and more urgent and intense CEV's, as opposed to taking it slowly where my CEV's are more rich in color and tend to have a warmer feel). I have also heard that this has to do with the conversion of DXM to DXO in the body (which is also the reason that plateau sigma can be reached).

i usually preferred to take my dose slowly, because i found the onset to be too sudden and the body load to be overwhelming unless i eased into the trip. i do think that each method has good points though... has anyone else into DXM played around with how you time your doses and found anything interesting? DXM seems to be unique this way, with more variation between methods than is found with other drugs.

my interest in DXM really got the better of me and after a 5 week break i'm jumping back in for a low second plateau trip.

just dosed 210mg starting about 40 min. ago, the highest i could go is 300mg (all that's available tonight) but i don't think i'm even gonna do that. weed is a given though.

    gah

as an introvert, DXM is a good drug for me, william white put it well in his FAQ that naturally introverted persons might be more attracted to DXM because it's an inward focusing drug that also removes the stress of social interaction.

it zooms in so far on my self that i see everything i've created as an extension of my own person so that at times i can occupy the universe.

DXM is a pretty egotistical drug which i've said before but i'm sitting here re-realizing it and it seems like a big deal :D

The only difference I noted when I dosed is that the faster it got into my system, the more 'out of it' I was. Difference between gelcaps (slow) and spray (very fast onset). This probably has to do with the DXM -> DXO conversion mechanics...

Taking DXM with an SSRI is not recommended, but taking it with Claritin (loratadine) was... interesting. Loratadine is metabolized by CYP3A4 and CYP2D6, the same enzymes as DXO and DXM. My unscientific analysis is that the loratadine is additional competition for these enzymes, slowing down the metabolism of DXM/O. I didn't enjoy the experience enough to repeat it, but it was very strong. Passed out.

I'm done with DXM for a while. I'd like to have a true 4th plateau experience someday, but as a very introverted person I don't think DXM usage is very healthy for me mentally. When you're depressed about being so alone, the last thing you need is a dissociative. :p

yep everything you said makes sense. interesting about the loratadine.

i feel exceptionally normal. the kind of normal that i usually feel the day after psychedelics- quiet, serene, "at home".

didn't used to happen with dxm... i think the low dose made for a very pleasant comedown.
