I’m straight. Now that that’s out of the way—
I’ve lived in Hollywood for the last two years. When all the Prop 8 stuff was going on- pro and con- I didn’t care.
But then I got bombarded with so much “they’ll teach it in school” and such bullshit that I got pissed off and my passive support became active and I voted for the second time in my life. WHO THE FUCK DO THEY THINK THEY ARE TO TELL OTHER PEOPLE HOW TO LIVE!

Me—I got my own problems. Who the fuck has time to worry about what other people do?

So anyway, freedom takes another blow and there were protesters saying they were doing it anyway. I encouraged them at every opportunity (and there were ALOT of opportunities!). Fuck anyone who tells you how to live!
But then the gay community made a tactical error. They should have regrouped and tried again next election. But instead, they wouldn’t let it go—and started to get annoying. I got stuck in traffic for an hour during a protest. I was pissed. FUCK ALL OF THIS.
And once more my support became passive (not really—but it would have if I weren’t already an anarchist nut job).

My point here is simple: straight, gay, whatever- I don’t care. In that, I believe I represent the average American.
    I favor the underdog.
    I like freedom.
    I hate being annoyed.

So try again, but consider the neutral point of view.
    -------------------
This may seem out of the blue, but I was talking to this guy at the bus stop… not to mention elections are on the horizon and I got a hard on for personal freedom. I fucking love it!

Dude, just about everyone does that?
The gay community? what....do you think we all have one big secret meeting every year where we all magically agree on everything the same way?
Like saying PETA protestors represent all vegetarians

What was that about people telling people what to do?

Or maybe you got a hard on cos he was cute? ;)

    Wow- straight bashing.
    Are you down under California?
It's a big deal here in Hollywood - to me it's an issue of political rights.
'course if gays are self-righteous bigots like you-- fuck 'em.
iIs that what you were going for?

Um, vanilla has a point. I'm a relatively new poster here so I don't know his history or what-not... but I understand what he's saying. The reaction to prop 8 by the gay community was justified. But the protests don't represent all... it was just some of us (myself included!) letting off some steam. We did not have protests all that often... like in some countries where they happen week after week.

And if you don't think the gay community isn't taking action properly, there is a case against proposition 8 in the federal court system right now. The outcome? Anyones guess. But it was taken to federal courts after the supreme court upheld the proposition.

Also as far as protests... deal with it pal. Protests are part of society. You may have been stuck in traffic for an hour, but there was a point. Self righteous bigots? Who is being self righteous here?

You're going to keep losing as long as so much effort goes into alienating people like me.
Apathy is your friend-- crying about losing an election is not.
    You've lost my vote.

Hahah... alienating? Who cares about people like you? Honestly?

You never intended to vote with us anyways. You're just one of those who intends to use manipulation... you make it seem like you supported us... but your support was hollow and weak at best. Apathy? Apathy? Apathy is what lost us this. Apathy is the dangerous enemy.

And we've lost your vote? Good riddance. I hope you don't vote at all in the future.

    You're full of crap.
I've had gay friends since before you knew where you're pecker was. I marched in every AIDS parade in Vegas in the 90's.
I believe in personal freedom and have lived that belief. And I didn't cry about it when I lost.
I re-grouped and tried again. And I NEVER went out of my way to turn allies into enemies.

I'm full of crap? Dude, you don't have a clue. You're a clueless dunce, and you lie about plenty of things, including here. You do not understand how politics works and how protesting is very important. Who cried? We are fighting this in the courts... right now it is in federal court. Sure there was some initial anger, but the proper steps have been taken. Re-group? WHat does an APATHETIC fool like you understand about trying?

Allies? Again, who are you to say anything? You're weak and hollow.

That's all I need to say. I'm actually gay, and if you were in my shoes for a day you would understand. But you're not... so stop assuming you know anything.

Actually, if it hadn't been for gay activists like Harvey Milk and Cleve Jones: Anita Bryant would stll be on national television, telling us she, "loves homosexuals, but hates their sins." Thank God for all those awesome protests in San Francisco! Apathy is not the answer...

If you support gays in this, why would you have a problem with protests? The only way of tackling oppression is to fight it head on. Apathy will not gain you any rights whatsoever.

And if you would withdraw your support for that cause just because of the posts/views of one or two gay people, then your "support" was probably never that strong to begin with. Do you think Vanilla Gorilla speaks on behalf of the whole ''gay community" or something? I dunno why people insist on thinking all gay people (and transpeople for that matter) are the same, hold the same views, enjoy the same things, etc. Gays are all individuals as well you know! That isn't something which is exclusively reserved for straights...

I don't support gays per se.
I don't give a crap about yours or anyone elses sexuality.

I support freedom-- the basic right of every individual to choose their own road.

But your freedom is NOT more important than anyone elses.

I'm not justifying keeping gays apart--
Why are you justifying interfering in my right to freedom?

Clearly, some posters here feel everyone that isn't actively for gays is against them.
Just like the right wing nuts, they would require everyone to choose sides.
And polarization is NOT your friend.

My sexuality? Why are you even mentioning that? That just because I support gay rights, that must mean Im gay as well? Stupid.

Im sure gays don't think their freedom is more important than anyone else's. They only want equality, that's all. How come so many people think that gays wanting equal rights is somehow them wanting ''more'' rights than hetero people?

Its not about ''choosing sides''. You either support gay marriage, or you don't. It seems like you don't really care either way, but putting down gays for protesting their cause really sounds to me like you're more against it than for it. What is wrong with them protesting? How do you think blacks won rights for themselves? By just accepting the oppression they faced? No, they fought for all the rights they have now, just like women did. And that is all that gays are doing now. Apathy gets you nowhere. If you want change, especially if you're in a polarized minority group, then you need to fight for it. That is the way its historically always been.

I, as a gay man, do not see my freedom as any more important than yours. I have yet to see a gay person who does. I do not deny the possibility that a few exist out there somewhere, but I have yet to see or hear of one.

How do you see your right to freedom being interfered with? I am confused there.

I am a gay man. You would never catch me protesting for gay marriage. I am no against gay marriage, I am just against marriage in general.

I really didn't give a shit about gay marriage...

Until I went to hair school.
My eyes opened. I used to just see stupid bi guys and girls in highschool. Who just wanted to fuck around...

But these gays are truly gay. And when they find love they can't marry legally... It saddens me.
I'm all about equal rights now.
    No h8.

Equal rights and freedom of choice is as simple as this: 2 consenting adults of legal age may marry. If you're against gay marriage it's simple, don't have one. Anyone whose support changes because of inconvenience or monetary cost doesn't have any strength to his convictions.:peace:
