You aren't as "chill" as other people it seems..

    Peace and Love

tell that to any rastafari or sadhu (and sadhvis), dreadlocks can symbolize whatever you want and if you can connect them to your spirituality then that's cool with me.

Looking at your picture, dreads will look amazing on you! and it sounds like you really want them.

I would definitely speak to your parents about it if you know they are against this kind of thing. Make it clear that it IS ultimately your decision, and if you really want to, you will, but also make it clear that you respect their opinion and you would really appreciate their support.

you are old enough to do what you want with your hair, but you are never too old to want your parents approval of what you do! I think even at 50, I'd have still asked my mum what she thought :p

best wishes, and good luck on your dready journey :cheers2:

    krsna bhakti actually

    but i dig on shiva.

nijissar: i understand the sadhu and the rasta traditions. still pretty silly and outward approach to an inward concept such as 'spirit' uality.

Maybe so, in your opinion, (though I fail to see it), but still, back to your earlier statement: "spirituality has nothing to do with your hair".

thank you for acknowledging that it CAN have something to do with your hair, however silly. :)

    Hmmm ...that's very interesting Bro

Can’t say that I agree with this at all … locks don’t define Rasta, anybody can grow their hair in a non-interventionist manner, it comes with Creation’s ‘Design. Being Rasta is about continuing the ‘works that H.I.M. started and that’s got nothing to do with hair … H.I.M. never had locks anyway. When I cut my locks on previous occasions, it never followed that I ‘diluted’ my commitment to the ‘works’. There is a lot more to being Rasta than having locks … to get to the point, locks are the last aspect of being Rasta, that is why it’s good that locks take time to grow.

And I totally agree with you there.

The point I was making is that hair doesn't have NOTHING to do with spirituality and an example of this, is rastafari, because an aspect (however small) of being a rasta is not to cut your hair, and allow it to do what it naturally will. (dreads).

an outward expression of an inward concept, you could say ;)

I answered the question posted and I've no interest in dwelling on a battle of opinions, we have established how stubborn we all are, no one is going to win so I quit. I'll leave the rest of you to it.

Umm ... Just before you split NJS, well that's a very tricky aspect … the hair part and Rasta.

Rasta grow locks because of the Nazarene / Nazarite Vow, but Rasta are far from the only people in the world that commit to this vow. At the same time, plenty of Rasta eat meat and even consume alcohol ... which is not a very strict commitment to the Vow … hmmm, won't even go into Rasta with black lungs from tobacco or bloody noses from cocaine.

So with all these things happening within Rasta that compromise the spiritual commitment, there is no 'objective' way that one can say that Rasta grow locks for spiritual reasons. Yes, there are Sisters and Brothers, Rasta, that are strict, but that is because of their commitment to the Vow as individuals, it’s personal ... As for Rasta as a whole, the most one can say is that locks are for the purpose of identity

I agree with that. You can put spiritual focus into anything, whether crystals, plants, pictures of deities, and even hair. "God" is in everything, it's just the way you look at at.

As for the OP, just get them, your parents will be ok when they see your sick-ass locks:D
