I've been sucking up all the info i can on this forum before i get dreads and i've got 2 questions 1. If ACV and baking soda cleanses are so great, then is there any harm in doing this every time you wash? 2. And if warm water opens the pores and lets moisture in your hair and then cold water closes the porers then would using your hair dryer open the pores again making it meaningless? Feedback would be awesome Thanks guys
1. http://www.apple-cider-vinegar-benefits.com/natural-hair-care-product.html http://www.chagrinvalleysoapandcraft.com/shampving.htm Some info on ACV washes. 2. It's steam that opens pores not air.
1. Are you asking if it's cool to do ACV or baking soda every day? The problem with doing that is that your scalp will get mad dried out. Some people rinse with water and don't even use a "washing" agent. Basically, you need to find a balance that works for your hair/scalp. 2. I thought it was heat that open's pores, so you might have something there but I really don't know... It's not that hard to dry dreads with a towel + the sun
You are right in a way, If you could wash it out properly then it wouldn't harm your dreads but it's near impossible to wash it out "Properly", That's why consecutive use causes build up of residues.
1. na. try once a week or at most twice a week. 2. not sure what the purpose of worring about your pores is unless you have dandruff or a dry scalp. try using a blow dryer, then try not using one. decide for yourself which way works better for you.
All I do is sitting out side for 20 mins in the sun and i'm ready to go. or, wrap a towel around my head for 10 mins after I get out. take it off and let them air dry, usually takes about 2 hours if im inside. Wont use a hair dryer until my dreads are touching the floor.
I don't understand your second question, steam/hot water opens up your pores and then splashing the skin with cold water will close them again but what has that to do with dreadlocks? I think maybe you mean the hair follicles? Heat of any kind does damage to your hair follices - hot showers, hot hair dryers, tongs, the sun. By having cooler showers and avoiding heat on your hair you can do less damage and keep the hair follicles strong and healthy. Obviously cold showers are gonna be hard to bear on your skin, but I like to make mine luke warm (so it feels cold on my head but warm on my skin) ocassionaly having a hot shower or using a hair dryer shouldn't do any major long term damage, but avoid it if you can!
