I haven't had time to read the whole thread, so I don't know if some of the people I remember have already started in. I'll just start with a bit about me.

In the spring of 1969, I graduated early from high school in Georgia. I was still 16 years old when I packed up my stuff and took my Dad's car and drove off one Sunday evening heading west. Late in my third day out, I picked up a hitchhiker on the outskirts of Alubuquerque because he was holding up a sign that said "San Francisco." Turns out he was a kid named Bill, from South Carolina, and he was not a whole lot older than me. 18 maybe. Bill said he was going back to SF after being at something called "The Gathering of the Tribes" out there in the desert. He was still high from it all and sat there in the back seat of my car playing wild beats on his hand drum. He asked about me and I said I didn't know where I was going. He said he knew some people in San Francisco that I could probably crash with.

These people turned out to be the folks occupying the top two flats in a building up on Fell Street. The upper flat was mostly political leftist Maoist type folks. The flat below was more like the peace and love hippie folks. You have to understand that I was a complete kid and didn't know nothing or nobody at the time.

Turns out-- the upstairs bunch were some of the people who later began to call themselves the "Armed Love Commune." The folks downstairs were Steven and Cyril and Joel and Kitten and Gypsy and others who were just then working up the idea of the Good Earth Commune. The Everlovin' Trading Post was just getting under way.

I lived, first upstairs, then down, sleeping on the living room floor mostly, with all of these folks until Cyril and Steven finally announced that they had rented the house at 1915 Oak. I moved in down there and lived in the basement mostly, until I left SF in April of 1970.

Although I wasn't privy to much of the business side of things, I was part and parcel of most everything that went on with the Good Earth during that time.
The reason we started calling ourselves "The Church..." was becuse of some of the legal and tax slack that gave us. I remember when Steven told us all to get ordained as ministers in the Universal Life Church. I still have my card. I think it had to do with local restrictions on how many people you could have living under one roof, because we had a LOT. I remember Cyril one day puttiing "apartment numbers" on the doors of all the rooms, so that if anybody asked.....

I did a lot of driving for the family because I was one of the few people who had a valid driver's license and didn't have any kind of record or wasn't hiding out from the heat in one way or another. Nathaniel drove my old Ford until it died. I drove Linda Penn's old Plymouth a lot, and the little red International pickup truck.

I worked at the Trading Post, did a lot of kitchen work, cooking and cleaning, and helped Gypsy distribute the Good Times and the Berkeley Tribe to all the outlets on the Bay side.

Any of you guys have memories of Summer-Fall of 1969 with the Good Earth??

god,we were high spirited weren't we?
i have been trying to figure something out. about the nature of the relationships we had and why they still seem so special after all this time. as many friends and lovers as i have had, none resonate like the memories of the GE and you folks. the only other people i relate to this way are my birth siblings. telling isn't it. i mean honestly, all of us have lived lifetimes and are different people now. how many friends and lovers have touched my life? and still the memories forged during that time stand apart. more gentle, more generous in spirit... it really was family.
as i read thru the posts i realize that i was a little isolated from the day to day heart beat of the family. it didn't seem that way at the time. and most of the tales i have involve highly illegal activities. wex, are there statutes of limitations for felonies?
by the way, if i don't post often, i apologize.i have health issues and am having chemo on occasion but i am reading posts.dana

    Dana;

Except for murder I beleive all crimes have a Statute of Limitations . This is true for the stuff I know we did way back when and the Statutes have run for all of it. However, There is one caveat. In most instances the statute is tolled (that is it doesn't run) when you leave the state (or country). Of course i would get a second opinion since i don't do that much criminal law. Here is a chart I found for Cali. Please note (This is my CYA` disclaimer) I am not admitted in CA )

California Criminal Statute of Limitations Laws

More Information on Criminal Statute of Limitations
Code SectionPen. ยงยง799 et seq.FeloniesMurder, other offenses punishable by death or life imprisonment, embezzlement of public funds: none; offenses punishable by 8 or more years in prison: 6 yrs.; offenses punishable by imprisonment: 3 yrs.Misdemeanors1 yr.; misdemeanor violation committed on a minor under 14: 3 yrs.; sexual exploitation by physician or therapist: 2 yrs.Acts During Which Statute Does Not RunNot in state, max. extension 3 yrs.; statutory periods do not begin until offense is or should have been discovered

Hope this makes you feel better.

On a more pleasant point, I agree that the feelings of family and fellowship that came from the Family that`we chose to be a part of survive despite the long time since we were all together and despite any of the bad times that might have been experianced. I think it's because not only did we choose to be a part of this family but we hoped that we were creating a better world both micro and macro.

Hope you fell better so that when I get out west I can taste some of the stuff you've been cooking up.
    Love

... was Linda's neurotic German Shepherd, wasn't it? Or was Puddles your dog?

Hi Dana!! How are you?? Sorry to hear you have to struggle with chemo.

I think the statute of limitations is well past for that time unless you put someone in the ground.

One of the things that astounds me to this day is that you were (are) even younger than me when I met you. You seemed like such an "old hand." I was a real "fish out of water" there for a while, but everyone treated me like family. I remember one time very clearly early on when Rebecca (of all people) really got in my face because I was just crashing there night after night and not making myself a part of the process, the daily upkeep and all. I was so clueless to start with.

Do you remember the night when Mama Chris had her baby upstairs at Fell St.?? Both floors stayed up all night and drummed and partied. Jeez, just one of many...

There were some nights, tripping with everybody while we were still up on Fell Street, where everything just fell into synch. I remember one night, sitting at one of the front windows with Steven, looking down on to Fell Street as if we were watching a cool moonlit river, and just talking about everything uner the sun.... He had a way about him that just drew people in. He never met a stranger, often seemed really childlike.... Guess I don't have to tell you.

....or some of those long afternoons up on Mount Tam with everybody, just watching the day go by...

It's funny some of the things a person remembers. In your upstairs room on Oak Street, you had a calendar or something with that famous image of an Indian, sititng on a horse, with his arms out, looking up to the sky, praying to teh Great Spirit. A year or so later, I was tripping one foggy summer night in downtown Boston and I suddenly came upon this giant statue....

Oh Well, it's wonderful to hear from you. Please be well.

Dana, my sister Lynn is doing chemo. She has stage three pancreatic cancer. We just returned from MD Andersons in Houston.. very cool place.

I have her juicing PARSELY before her chemo treatment. Parsely Juice keeps the sick off from chemo. I also have her doing The Flax Seed and Cottage Cheese. Here is the formula: You will need a hand blender and a small coffee grinder.

Take 1/4 cup of Flax Seed and grind in grinder add to 1/4 cup of Cottage Cheese and blend with hand blender. You may add fruit and walnuts. Start out with one drink a day and on the second day add another drink. Add a drink a day till you reach 4 drinks a day.

Following this remedy has healed cancer. One of my sisters church friends had pancreatic cancer and healed himself with this method. It works on all cancers that produce tumors.

I have Lynn (my sis) on Pau D' Arco Tea and Chickweed tea. The Pau D' Arco kills cancers and the Chickweed shrinks tumors. She has 2 cups of each daily. Vitamin C is essential as well as high protien.

Her PSAs were up to 5,567 in June and her last tests on thursday confirmed that they are down to 700.

I just thought you may be interested and might want to try the flax and cottage cheese.

    Bright Blessings

Linda's dog was named, "Thorin." Linda gave him to me and Risa to raise at Ash Valley. She wanted him to live in the country. He was a great dog!

I am shocked by your admission but life is life and we are not invulnerable. I would like to impart this to you my dearest sister. Are you aware of graviola? It's amazing in reducing growths. And for the rest of you I have a regimen I follow everyday that is what I contribute to vitality. Bear with me hear as I give the recipe:

    1 banana
    1/2 cup of blueberries
    1/2 cup of cherries
    1 cup of oatmeal
    1/2 cup of vanilla yoghurt
1 cup of concord grape juice
    1 cup of cranberry juice
    1 tablespoon of honey
    1/4 cup of walnuts
    1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

Put all in a blender and liuquify. It keeps the arteries and veins de-plaqued and knocks the shit out of free radicals. Besides that, it tastes great. Pain in the ass to make but better than going to a doctor.

And I drink at least four cups of green tea a day!

My guy "thing" is to ingest milk thistle, gingko, l-arginine, horse chestnut, 80 mg aspirn, and saw palmetto.

Don't know if this shit works but I just got back from playing soccer with some 20ish German soccer kids and I didn't look like an over the hill asshole.

Like Mouse says, "Peace, Love, and Good Vibes"

Hey, Dana, need a sous chef? I'm sick of this gig.

That's good to hear about Linda's dog. He was so unhappy in the city.

That Indian on the statue looks more like a Sioux to me. This is a Shawmut Indian.

Good For ya Bill. It does work. It's all about nutrition, feeding the body what it can break down and use.

I've been in the 'alternative healing proffession' 33 yrs. Having certifacation in Iridology, Muscle Responce Testing, Herbology, Aromatherapy and reading eyes/faces/body language.

I have a habit of posting what ails me/others and then posting the remedy/program to heal it, for those who may have the same dis-ease or dis-comfort. It's what I do and what I can give freely. I really cannot help myself :p

I have a forum in personal forums for questions and answers for healing, called The Healing Tree. I also have one there for spritual healing called, The Circle Of Light.

Bill my darlin', you sound like you have a good program going for you. The only thing I see missing is the Omegas 3 & 6.

    I gotta run..

Infrared saunas have great healing potential. They are compact in size and affordable. You can Google, "health benefits of infrared saunas," for more information.

    Folks;
While I know that there are many alternative modalities that have healing value one sould not totally abandon Western medicine. The tirck is to find an open minded MD (like mine) who will evaluate alternative remedies and preventatives. Please remember those that used apricot pits exclusively and died. If the alternative medicines were all we needed our ancestors would not have had 35-40 year life spans. You all stay well and stay out of jail. I don't want to lose you again.

Worry not my friend. I do Not prescribe nor mention the word CURE, I only suggest and say heal, so I am safe. Since Only a doctor can prescribe and only they cure disease it is not wise to use thoes terms when suggesting a self help avenue.

    Nails;

I wasn't implying anything other than caution. I know that many alternative remedies work but they should not solely be relied on.
