what social media sites do you use?

do you use social media sites like facebook, myspace, twitter, etc? do you use the mainstream sites i listed or something tailored to a specific community, like gooodreads for book lovers.

i've wanted to start some kind of haven on the net for countercultural types to get together and share ideas, meet, etc. what does everyone think of this?

 

I have a MySpace page, basically for music promotion purposes, though I find MySpace very hard going...my anti-virus stuff doesn't like it ! Nor do I much, to be honest.

And a similar music promotion page on virb.com, which I guess is a MySpace wannabee.

Yeah, good idea... the major problem I find on the above sites is the lack of actual networking...ok, I'm using those sites for promotion, but I like interaction while I'm doing it.

 

Isn't that what this place is, in a way?

 

In a way, yes...but I assumed he meant a sort of counterculture MySpace.

 

Never used a "social media site". Title sounds nice though. I have seen myspace.com because my children use it but I've always thought that too much personal info is on display. But I will keep an eye on this thread to see if anyone is interested in your proposal to set up a new site and you never know I might be convinced to join.

I just tell lies about myself, and assumed everybody else does too !

 

what's the point of using it then? all the reactions/interest you get from other users on the site are fake.

 

I use twitter and facebook. Twitter mainly for business purposes and facebook to keep in touch with friends and fam. =)

 

Facebook helps me keep in touch with friends. Otherwise I'm a slacker sometimes.

 

I have a facebook account, but I rarely use it, mostly just to keep in touch with people

 

I use messenger for that kind of thing then I can arrange an exact day and time to keep in touch.

 

I have MySpace and FaceBook. I don't really like FaceBook, but everyone I know is starting to use that instead of MySpace, so I kind of have to if I want to talk to some people.
I refuse to use Twitter. It just seems way more stupid than the other social networking sites.

 

I don't use Twitter, MySpace or Facebook. I use HipForums and the WELL (Whole Earth 'Lectronic Link), which started bringing hippies together in 1985.

I use facebook, twitter, and I have a blog on blogger. I use twitter and blogger to get my writing out there and I use facebook to keep in touch with people I don't really care about but don't want them to know i don't care about them...know what I'm sayin? hahaha

 

Besides this one I have facebook, yahoo, EP, Youtube

 

I'm a member of so many forums I can't possibly keep up with it all. Mainly I come here, a horror movie forum, Military.com, ARRSE (Brit military), even a forum for vampires (just out of curiosity), and some others that I can't even remember my user name or passwords for.

I've actually been designing a social networking website. I'm only a couple weeks into it, it's mostly for the sake of my portfolio and keeping myself entertained, but the main goal is to be like Myspace and Facebook but with more interaction and less friendwhoring. Ya know, not necessarily only adding people you already know like some sites, but not adding people just for the sake of adding people like on Myspace. True networking. Putting a counterculture spin on it could make it more of a fun project.

 

I use Facebook (only because my boyfriend was trying to get me to join the bandwagon) and Last.fm (more music than networking). In general, I really hate networking sites and I try avoid them as much as possible.
