hi... i want uv tattoos but have been told that they don't last well and are more likely to cause an adverse reaction. does anyone know more about this please? :cheers2:

Up until pretty recently they were considered fairly carcinogenic, although I hear there's a new more safe version now.

As far as lasting goes...i don't really know but if it is anything like getting white tattoos which I do have, they are not overly sustainable, especially not on areas that get sun exposure..

that being said they look AMAZING!!!

yeah i would definitely say be safe as possible with these... and maybe talk to your doctor about it? or the tattoo area you are going to?

by coincidence, i may well be moving to Georgia next year and probably won't have it done until then... my boyfriend is a tattoo artist but very new on the scene so doesn't know about what experience teaches you yet (apart from the fact that he is an awesome artist).... can you suggest any good places or places to avoid? (for working with and as clients) we gonna be in Atlanta...

I have some of that from years ago and it faded very, very quickly.. I'm talking months at the most. where did it go? I don't know for sure. SOme may say it sluffed off with the layers of my skin.. others have a darker opinion (these others include old time tattooers like my present employer) It just broke down in my skin and is being pumped through my blood stream doing whatever it will. There is no UV ink out there that is considered safe. most of it is a newly bottled and labeled version of that shit they use to track migratory patterns of fish who turn up with cancer... Some of it claims safe and separate from that.. bottom line... IF I could take it back, I probably would, considering the short lived visual aspects of the stuff and the load of contoversy surrounded around using it. So if you have found a tattooer who will use it on you, I would suggest going somewhere else altogether.

Most UV ink is the same stuff they tattoo wildlife with which is why the fda says it is "safe". The ink itself contains particles that have a reaction to UV/black light - the sun also gives off uv rays. Over time most uv tattoos do get discolored and depending on sun exposure may cause burns. The inks they've come out with recently are new mixtures and have yet to prove themselves one way or the other....
