Benzo's .. tempary usage to dependance ??

Right ive started taking a couple of blues a night to get at least some sleep ( 4 days into methadone detox at the moment ) Took 2 on monday night, and 3 last night .. and just had another 5 dropped off and had 1 now and will have another in half hour or so ..

And im just wondering how many days i can use the benzo's without developing a dependancy for them ?

This will be the 3 rd night ive taken blues ( 10 mg ) and am not wanting to swap one addiction for another .. as you can imagion ..

Any help / guidance much apreciated . Thanks ..

I would say it would be about 2 weeks until you would really get noticeable withdraws from the valium. I mean im sure even after a week you will get a bit of withdraws, but it will mostly just be some anxiety that wont be too bad for you, with getting off methadone, one of the worst to get off of. Just the longer you are on them daily, the withdraws will just get worse and worse.

I personally could never imagine anytime soon getting off xanax, ive been on xanax for 6 years daily now, it helps me too much. I guess ill need one addiction to keep me sane.

 

diazepam has a long half life so you will probably want to skip a few days at a time...you'll probably be fine for a week or so while you detox, though coming off of the diazepam could potentate your post-acute withdrawal anxiety....if i were you i would have been eating them like candy all day long during opiate detox [i used to be such a fiend]...nice show of restraint!

I think 6 weeks is somewhat safe if you only take the prescribed dose. I took them almost every day for six weeks, but only 2-3 a day (5mg?).

 

Instead of me qouting everyone, i would just like to say thanks in general for all of you who posted with advice ..

To be honest im now 6 days into my methadone detox and i feel absolutey on top of the world ( since 2 days ago ), ive only been using the 10 mg benzo's after 9 pm at night and dropping a second one at midnight to get some sleep.

Yeh i could easily eat them all day aswell, as ive consumed downers / heroin for 6 yrs in excess, but being clean from H for a year and used methadone exclusively for the last year on its own has brought me down to a stable level to restrain myself from abusing / overusing another addictive substance.

Im off fishing for the next 48 hours with 2 good mates, hit the road in 6 hours ( 2 am in morning ) for the long drive to the venue, so thats summet im looking forward to ( Realistic reward system ) if you like ..

Yeah for benzos, particularly valium, it takes quite a while to get physically hooked. particularly if you're only taking them evening time or whatever. a shorter acting benzo, you might be in a worse position. i wouldnt worry about this for now. (i kinda half-read all the posts above so sorry if ive repeated anything)
