I have had my dreads for about a month a half now (they were backcombed), and I have many waves and curls in them still (I have quite curly hair naturally). Is there any way to fix them easily? I'll probably put some pictures up soon, just don't have any currently.
People with straight hair see straight hair in their dreads so why wouldn't someone with curly hair see curls in their dreads? It's all a part of the process.
I guarantee if you leave them aloane, in a years time, maybe longer, you will have sick ass locks, from my experience curly hair locks really well
Sweet thanks. I was just making sure that was normal. The person who did my dreads wasn't that experienced so I didn't want them to be f*cked up.
This is a concept that I find endlessly interesting... People pay for their dreads, or get them from their friends who don't know anything about it instead of just letting their hair do its thang, so sad... I guess it's from a lifetime of thinking that hair needs to be tamed.
Or people who don't want to go the natural route, instead of a slightly safer (usually) route. Though I would tackle a friend who was going into a salon for dreads, lol. I'd drag his ass out of the chair.
So would I haha, this one salon wanted $150 to do my dreads. Can't believe people would pay that much.
Also, my dreads that have curls in them don't feel dreaded or knotted very much or at all in some. Is that also something that just takes time?
Yeah it'll take some time before you notice any matting or knotting. Also, what are you using to wash your hair with?
I would think that curly hair would want to bunch together more easily than straight hair. My 3 yr old's knots up something fierce in no time at all
Honestly, I don't wash it that often but about once a week I scrub my entire head with Dial soap. Don't have much else that I think would work and from what I've heard it works. And what about locking accelerator? Does it actually work or is time the only major factor?
I would, I'm not worried as much about the curls in it rather than the roots. The roots are growing out completely undreaded. I've heard rubbing them in a circle can dread the roots, but is that something time will also fix?
Yea... that's what they do. An inch or so of unknottedness at the roots is totally normal. If you get the roots too knotty, it can pull on your scalp and = ouchies
I never knew that. Glad I got these forums to help me out with mah dreadies. Thank you very much for the help :cheers2:
:cheers2: glad to help... and yes, rubbing in a circle at the roots will tidy them up, but with this technique it is possible to break your dreads off or, like I said, get your roots so tight that they hurt.
