Fantasy wise, I've never ridden past the Harry Potter books, which I love, and movies like Twilight, and fantasy and paranormal movies always catch my eye. I'm a huge bookworm, but I never really know what to look for in the Fantasy/Sci Fi section although I want to start reading some. Any recommendations? I would also love to read some pagan inspired fiction, if you have any titles.
the black magician trilogy ny trudi canavan, the mortal istruments by cassandra clare. ( both are trilogies)
i just saw your post here and i found a book not too long ago that I'm very interested in called The Fairy Godmother Academy, and i love harry potter just as much as you and The Black Magician Trilogy looks amazing, i just looked it up! But it's basically like a girlie verson of HP. you can see if you'd like the book first on the site http://www.fairygodmotheracademy.com and read the chapter on there first. there's a couple cool games too.
Alright so go ahead and grab all your Twilight and Harry Potter books and throw them in a river - the splash will have better character development and plot. Once you're done, head for the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings if you want pure fantasy. If you're looking for something with a bit of a horror edge, pick up any compilation of H.P. Lovecraft. If you want to see what Harry Potter was a complete rip-off of, look up a rare old comic series by Neil Gaiman called 'The Books of Magic'. It predates H.P. by a good bit and the main story, main character, etc is pretty obviously what that talentless hack got her 'inspiration' from. Incidentally, if you're looking for modern-setting fantasy, check out Neil Gaiman - I'd recommend Neverwhere and Stardust(the movie doesn't do the book justice). If you want heavy, deep, awesome fantasy - read his 'Sandman' comic series. If you want a truly epic, fun vampire read - go online and track down the novel series from the 'Vampire:the Masquerade' game. There are 13 full novels that all tie pretty tightly together, they should all be cheap and are surprisingly very good. But the part about throwing the Harry Potter and Twilight garbage away is the most important part.
Haha, the Harry Potter books aren't going anywhere. Ever. As for Twilight, I loved the movie, hated the book. I had no idea that Stardust was a Neil Gaiman book. I definitely have to check that out. And may I say, you have awesome hair
Just because you mentioned not knowing what to look for in the sci-fi section, I gotta suggest Philip K. Dick - his stuff's got a lot to do with the nature of reality, and lots of drugs and counter-cultural lifestyle, and then plenty of standard sci-fi stuff (technology and time travel and shit like that) to go along with it.
The Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix - Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen are three of my favorite books!! Terrier by Tamora Pierce Lord of the rings ...of course. As much as I love Lord of the Rings, for someone who has never read it, all I can say is stick with it. The first bit is a little long and drawn out. las vegas hotel Cheers Sara
Magic Kingdom For Sale. I read it for my 11th grade english project. Cant get anymore "fantasy" then that. You all heard the tale of a magical land. But never like this. Insane detail! the storyline moves along fluidly. ill edit this post once i findout who the author is. author- Terry Brooks peace phear
all i can say is fuck twilight read the vampire chronicles starting with interview with a vampire its by Anne Rice, good books, otherwise i agree with all the above suggestions and grim...thats a fuckin awesome signature.
