Need advice! I have just started growing one MJ plant, from a male seed. The little grower is 13 inches high after one month. It is the only plant that I possess. My problem is this..I have been told by others(on a different site) that it is useless as is and that I should pull it. Is there a consensus with you guys about pulling it...or, can I use it for some light mental satisfaction as originally intended? Thanks......................Jimmy
Male plants make seeds...but any seed can be male or female down the road. (Ie: male plants do not just make male seeds) With just one seed your odds are about even, but if the plant you grow IS a male, then it's not worth growing. Your best bet is to find several seeds from someone's stash, or known (good) source, and plant several. When they're big enough to clone...(not hard to do)...you 'copy' the plants so you don't lose the line. When you get a female you like..."voila"~!
if it begins to get white hairs.....keep it! If it begins to get balls on stalks that open and drop yellow pollen everywhere......TOSS IT! Here are a couple pics to help you decifer....... Male Female
Thanks alot guys, this means I have a better than even chance of success. I was told by the head shop guy that it wasn't female, but pricy none the less. Not knowing about male/female roles in the plant world, I assumed it was male and produce anyway...DUH Thanks again......Jimmy
if they are feminized, yes there is a way, but still if you have FEM seeds it can flip to male due to stress, light, lack of water, fertilizer burns..
Now that my crop of one has been sexed, and happily, a lady, I need some quick info on flowering.. As sex was determined eight days after the flower sequence was initiated, the plant is indoors and the sequence began at 29 inches, is now 38 inches and will be flowering for 21 days tomorrow. The pistils are a marvelous thing to watch...having so much fun and anticipation. Question is, how much longer (approx) will it take my first lady be ready to be harvested, I am anticipating three weeks, is that close? Thanks....Jimmy
i would say if it's been in 12/12 for 3 weeks it has around 5-8...... EDIT:: had to add......DON'T PICK IT EARLY EITHER......you've already spent this much time on it......might as well let it finish........only adding this because i know it's hard not to pick them.....but the difference in quality of early bud or done bud is miles apart........definately worth it to wait it out!
seeing that its been really nice the last couple day, light in locations is still pretty good no frost yet.. im a kicking myself only cause I could have let my forced girls go a little bit longer. but not having much dank of my own the pincher in me said "DO IT, DO IT, DO IT"..
Thanks a lot, it's good to know.......a little longer than anticipated, but have waited this long! PS- thanks for the EDIT:: as well, my first baby, I need all the good advise I can get. Jimmy
Well, maybe it doesn't have to have a use that involves consuming it in one way. Give it a name and treat it well like a pet but it's a plant one plant is better than no plants!
If your only growing one plant, and it is a male then there isn't an issue. The only reason you pick the males is to prevent them seeding the females - as you don't have any keep it. You can still make hash and use the pollen from the plant. Go with it man, enjoy growing - this is an experience, next time get all females or buy more seeds. Throw the males and keep the females. Always come back if you are having trouble, lots of growers on here happy to help
