im going to go crawl in a bed wearing nothing but black clothing and weep for ages. I'll crawl in with you. I had the pleasure of meeting Mary after a concert when I was around 13 or 14. She came out to visit with a small group of us who had waited around after the show, and she sat and chatted with us for over an hour. What an interesting lady ... bright and funny and as sweet as she could be. I'm sorry to hear of her passing. I know she'd been sick for quite a number of years ... God rest her soul.
wow...very sad news. Mary was one of the good ones. She'll be missed. My little tribute... Here's another good one ... an old Gordon Lightfoot song called "Early Morning Rain". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbGxpUswP9M You can't jump a jet plane like you can a freight train. So I'd best be on my way in the early morning rain.
I found another video of a television show they did in Australia. Their first song was held up for a minute or two when Mary stopped to wash the face of her young daughter. Paul (or maybe it was Peter) had to come over and gently explain that the TV cameras were waiting ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7G_bq4iWk8&feature=related
I didn't know this about Peter, Paul & Mary, I read this in this morning's newspaper: ''At one point in 1963, three of their albums were in the top six Billboard best-selling albums '' that's very impressive - very Beatlesque.
Just learned of her passing last night... I loved Peter, Paul & Mary. Her voice was so pure and beautiful.
Yeah, I suppose so, but it is a reality. All of us who were once young, vibrant and storming the ramparts of conventionality are now OLD. Half a century from now you too will see this. Just the natural order that we all face.
And nothing pounds this into your head quite like seeing the icons of your youth fading away, one by one. Mary was a class act. A smart lady and a hell of a performer. The world has lost a good one ...
I hadn't heard yet, thanks for sharing. Only saw them once, at Park Central in Dallas, I think in the summer of '83. Me and my wife, before we even had kids, a bottle of wine, some cheese... one of the three performers said something like "this is probably the most formal event we've ever played." The sound was excellent, the performance superb, it is sure a sweet memory...
