I got one after my second kid, because I can't take pills or the shot. It totally fucked my body up. It gave me ovarian cysts, unregular bleeding, made me crazy from the hormones. Now I got it removed, the cysts haven't gone away and my body is trying to get used to those hormones gone. It was one of the worst choices in birth control I have done! So word from the wise, DON"T GET ONE! My husband also felt it, he said it felt like it was stabbing him when he was fully erect and about to cum. My .02 cents... Anyone out there had a good experience with it?
I had a weird first three months, but my cycles just about stopped (I have a day of it). A lover who is rather large felt the strings only once, and said "I think I felt something," so we tipped my hips slightly and no more problem. For me the no-brainer part more than makes up for teh insertion and the whacked out first 4-6 weeks I had. I was told it can take six months to settle. I had not been on hormonal BC for 15 years, and then only sporadically before that (maybe six years total) before the Mirena.
I've talked to my doctor about taking it, but he wouldn't give it to me because he said it was recommended for women with children. Now I take the pill daily, and I've gotten in such a routine that it doesn't even bother me anymore.
I can't take pills or teh shot. We use condoms and be safe for now to see if my cysts will go away. I am afraid it was the chemicals/hormones that were in the BC that caused them. They said the cysts and my pain are not enough to do any procedure to remove them, so I am stuck in pain everyday.
