Obviously we'd all like to meet other barefooters, but even if shopping with someone who isn't barefoot, would you rather be alone or with someone? I feel more comfortable if I'm with someone but depending on the store and my courage that day, I can get by fine alone.
"Other people" usually isn't an option, so barefooting alone is by default the name of the game. I've been barefooting more frequently with my wife lately (who remains a shoddite), and my rate of "success" isn't significantly better than when barefooting alone; just going to different places.
i don't really care. it has nothing to do with a style or anything i just don't feel like wearing shoes i like not wearing them. weather someone is with me or not.
It would be very nice to go barefoot with other people, especially if they're barefoot, as well! However, I tend to go barefoot alone almost all the time, since I'm usually out by myself.
I enjoy being barefoot with others, but all in all it doesn't really matter much. My boyfriend rarely goes without shoes (he finds it too uncomfortable), so I'm usually the only one walking about like a hippie. He's still amazed at how I can walk on gravel without any complaints.
i think it is cool, on the rare occasions when a boyfriend or friend joins me barefooting. however, it is usually me barefoot and others shod.
I would love to barefoot with others in public, but it's never happened, except a couple years my son joined me. He's outgrown it now. Outside, in my work, play, hikes, whatever, it's always me alone. People like me are a definite minority.
I had a couple of ex-girlfriends who I met while we were both barefoot in Greenwich Village (NYC). It was great to have someone else who was also into it. We enjoyed doing many things and going places together shoeless. Today it's so rare to see other barefooters out & about.
this is EXACTLY the kind of story I want to be able to tell. sadly, i have only seen a few barefooter women this year. I would love to meet a barefoot woman so I know she genuinely loves going barefoot. Where is she?!
Doing it with others is always more fun, but sometimes I get a weird kick from being the only one barefoot among a bunch of shod people.
I go it alone more often than not but really enjoy being in the company of another barefooter. Knowing someone else is experiencing the same thing you are with your soles is fun.
PUBLIC OFFER: I will donate $1 to this site for EVERY time someone on this site actually goes around barefoot with another barefooter---buddy, spouse, whoever. I just don't think it happens all that often. PROVE ME WRONG!
Well, since I work at a history theme park where we wear period clothing, and in the prehistoric part, I'm often barefoot with colleagues. Most of the time we work in different places of the park, but yesterday there was a very large group of people who all were to get a guided tour, and we got to hang out in a group for almost an hour. Five of us were barefoot, including one guy who wore only a loin cloth. The others rarely if ever go barefoot outside the park though, and only go barefoot when they wear their period clothing (not when we're doing stuff behind the scenes in our regular clothes). In the Medieval section there's one of the monks who does go barefoot regularly and I sometimes meet up with him on the train, for the last couple of stops (he gets on later than me) & the bike ride to the park. So I'm around barefooters often enough at work. Other than that I rarely meet with other barefooters though, only met up with some through the internet groups a handful of times in all the years.
I visited Archeon for the first time last June and had a fantastic barefoot day - I think I was the only English person there and certainly the only barefoot visitor. Everyone was really friendly and complimentary about my lack of shoes - I spent a lot of time in the pre-history area talking and drinking herbal tea. I can recommend a visit to everyone. It's probably the best history park that I've ever been to.
