I'm going to be lame and put 10 Things I Love About New Jersey 1. 30 Minutes from Philly 2. 30 Minutes from the beach 3. An hour from New York 4. All four seasons 5. Awesome produce 6. PORK ROLL ..... alright I'm fresh out of things. New Jersey ain't so bad though anyone from jersey wanna be friends?!?!
Pork Roll?! It's Taylor Ham! Here's the classic "North Jersey List": (I like #9 ) --------------------------------------- You know you're from North NJ if... 25) You live within 45 minutes of at least three different malls 24) Someone at the beach once called you a benny 23) You can see the New York City skyline from some part of your town 22) You know what CCM is and a good percentage of people from your high school go there. 21) You've seen or been in a fight between a Rangers fan and a >Devils fan 20) You have or know someone with mafia connections too 19) You're related to someone who thinks the New York Jets should be called the New Jersey Jets 18) You have at least one friend who drives a truck 17) You've been camping 16) You've been in a town or city where Spanish is spoken more than English 15) You can't remember when Clifton didn't win a softball championship 14) You know where to get drugs in Paterson, Newark, or New York 13) You've been to a party in the woods 12) You've purchased fireworks in Chinatown 11) You played in a P.A.L league 10) You liked the Jets even before this season 9) You know where to get a freshly cooked Taylor Ham, Egg and Cheese sandwich at 2 a.m. 8) You've been to the Sussex County fair 7) You remember Action Park and may have been seriously injured there 6) At some time you got on the wrong highway trying to get out of Willowbrook mall 5) Z-100 used to be your favorite radio station, now it's K-Rock 4) Anything less than three inches of snow ain't shit 3) Someone cut you off on the road and you told them to go fuck themself 2) You think people from South Jersey talk funny 1) You don't take shit from no one either
I love the parts of Jersey that are still pretty and natural (they're around, you just have to look a little harder) what I hate about jersey are all the ghetto thug wannabes that are EVERYWHERE around here, the hoochie street chicks screaming at the top of their lungs "so I told dat bitch, yo, don't be messin wit my shit ho! I got dat shit on lock but still bitches be hatin!" to their friends sitting RIGHT NEXT to them on the sidewalk at 3 in the morning. I'm in the jersey city/union city/secaucus trifecta of crap. Plus traffic sucks, cigarettes are over $7 per pack, smoking is illegal practically everywhere, the cops are assholes, and rent (even in the worst areas of town) are ridiculously expensive. It's great living only minutes from NYC, and there a lot of things I love about this place, but when its bad, its almost intolerable.
I'd take the suburbs in NJ than the tacky sprawled out suburbs in the sunbelt. NJ on average has the most walkable communities in the nation, it also has the least chain restaurants per capita (despite SoNJ)- I know plenty of towns in Bergen County that have a quaint little downtown centers, and the people tend to be nice enough. Jersey folks can be rough around the edges, but once you get to know them you realize how sincere they really are. I'm a native NYer btw. Taxes in NJ are horrendous- But there's a reason for that (NJ has some of the lowest poverty rates. it has one of the wealthiest populations, it's one of the best educated states, and it's the most accessible state..... NJ does have lower suicide rates than any other state after all. NJ also has the best variety of food. NJ gets bad hype because of the turnpike area around Linden/EBeth/NWK (and this is also where the oh so busy NWK airport is located) -- It's an eye sore, but it's the also the scene of the introduction of the highest rated television series in the history of television... The Sopranos- So it has more character than any other highway system in America. New Jersey really packs a lot into a small area, no state is like it. Camden is/was the most dangerous city in the nation, Brick was/is the most safest city in the nation. Camden/Newark are some of America's poorest cities, Alpine/Ridgwood/Franklin lakes are some of the wealthiest towns in the nation. As much as people don't want to believe it, NJ is in fact the garden state- It's a leader in producing blueberries, cranberries, raspberries, lettuce, spinach, and Peaches. Hudson County has a denser population than most cities across the nation (only NYC, SF, and Boston are denser)- NJ is sandwiched by the most iconic city in the world, and the 2nd largest city in the north east. NJ is the most ethnically diverse state per square mile... There's a lot to hate, and there's a lot to love. I love Jersey overall. The taxes, and how they congest the poverty in geographical prisons is what I hate.
You mean the majority of girls in other states don't look plastic? Thank god- because some of the girls I go to school with look nasty! I don't mind NJ so much...that being said, I definitely plan on getting out of here when i go to college!
I'll agree that NJ has some unlikable aspects to it, but it would help to project some positive energy out there and say that NJ has something wondrous...the Pine Barrens. They're a beautiful and magical place that contain an extremely rare ecosystem...there's even such exoticness to be found like rattlesnakes, bald eagles, and carnivorous plants. Anyone who has all but lost faith that there is something to be proud of in New Jersey should take an adventure to the Pine Barrens sometime
Umm...I bet most of the time it's New Joiseys driving into New York. That being said, I've always loved Jersey and always will.
