Im a Junior in Highschool and I recently made the Varsity soccer team. I dont play that much, about 20+ minutes per game. Im used to being the superstar now I go from playing 90 minutes to 20. Im thinking of dropping down to JV. I have been striving to make Varsity for ALL of my life now it seems to be a huge disapointment.

What should I do? Stay on Varsity or drop down to JV?

Maybe I could try speaking with my coach?

Where will you will be able to learn and increase your skills for the game?

i made my college team and didn't play for similar reasons, I knew I wasn't going to be a starter. What was different for me, is that I gave up soccer all together (at that point).

I know I am a girl, but I am as competetive as any boy on the soccer field, and I played on an all male team. I know it sucks when you aren't playing as much. Is it your ego you are worried about? I am asking that for you to reflect on. I do think you need to be happy, but also need to worry about on which team will you improve your skill the most.

You're a junior, seniors get the most playing time, deal with it then when you're a senior you can be on the field all you want

Have you mentioned this to the coach?
Would you be more valuable to the school on the Varisty or the JV squad?

Im the teams only backup Forward. If I played JV i would tear people apart haha. ironically I made V as a freshmen( guess the coach thought i was good at tryouts) and therefore I was the youngest player in my state to ever make varsity. I was 13. But then I got moved down. Played my Sophomore year on JV. then I transferred schools. made V at my new school, Coach said he's heard of me, so that helped. Now here I am, hardly playing at all lol.

But overall, I think id be better on Varsity.

Talk to the coach. Ask him which squad he thinks you should be on.

If you ask the question "Where can I help" rather than saying "I'd prefer", the coach will see someone oriented towards the team.

His awareness that you care about the team will mean more minutes of playing time.

I would just keep working hard and stay on varsity. If your the only back-up forward then you should be getting some playing time. Plus who knows, a injury could always occur which puts you in the starting spot.

I made varsity my freshman year. Our team was very good, won counties and got very far in states. I played center mid but didn't start since the starting center mid was the best on the team at the time haha. Though I still got some playing time. I was never a big fan of school ball that much..too much kick and run, etc lol. Playing for my premier team is a lot funner!
