Well heres the deal. My mother thinks that teenagers should NEVER be sarcastic, even amoungst themselves. She constantly harrasses me about this.

Do you think teenagers are sarcastic around their friends?

Do you think teens talk like this a good amount of their time?

Is this normal? ( how teens are often always sarcastic.)

And would you label sarcasm as the " new teenage lingo"?

This shouldn't even be an issue.

Sarcasm is just a form of humour, and I believe its actually pretty mature.

I'm naturally sarcastic and people hate it but I can't help it. It can be effective for making a point but it can also be hurtful and sounds weak if it's repetitive.

This is the first I've heard of it being suggested as the "new teenage lingo". But I'd say, yeah, teens are probably more prone to it.

    Yes.

    Yes.

    No.

Do I think some people use it a bit too much? Yes. I don't think it's a generational thing, necessarily, but maybe it is. It's safer to pop off with a sarcastic or cynical answer than to risk taking a stand on an issue and having to defend that stand. While generally that's inferior to real conversation, I think it's also true that some extreme points of view (e.g. today's version of conservatism) really deserve only derision and sarcasm.
