I love growing Peppers. They fascinate me. As I live in Belize and have a year round growing season. I have started a new batch of Chocolate and Yellow Habaneros. Here is what the yellow look like at harvest. What kind of Peppers do you grow?
Love peppers, but havent grown them in a few years. The last Igrew were red chiili peppers and I dried them so I still have some left
green peppers dont grow well here, insects kills them.. but jalapenos i grow, ... not much time for other grows since Im kinda busy with the herbs..
I'm growing red Habanero's that I've breeding for many years and few hybrids of Habanero/purple Cayenne. Also regular Cayenne's and red Rocoto's, Capsicum pubescens, (which taste sooo good and are a pain because they need to hand pollinated).
This year we're growing bell peppers, jalepenos, and cayenee peppers. What do you use habaneros for? They're hot as hell.
Good you have some left. Love jalapenos. I never realized how many varieties there were. Wow, I don't do hand pollination. I do however use screen boxes, distance and barrier plants to prevent cross pollination of the rare types. Also, starting them at different times of the year. I am impressed with the hand pollination, though.:cheers2: I am a seed breeder and wholesaler/exporter. I have a pretty large operation. I have some "pet" plants. Peppers are one of them. I enjoy growing them. Anyway, the seed is collected. The pepper is ground up and used as an ingredient in a critter deterrent spray. In the jungle you have to use any tool you have. The seed is cleaned and stored. Then it is added to our seed inventory.
Hand pollination is easy if you don't have too many plants. I do it often while trying to hybridize various cacti species. Forgot to mention that I am also growing some Bhut Jolokia peppers. Here is a picture of a immature Rocoto pepper.
I love Cactus but I have been having germination problems with the varieties I want to grow. Nice photo. That is going to be pretty. I have been growing peppers for years. But it was only last year that we started offering them in our inventory. Until now I always grew peppers because it was fun. The Bhut Jolokia is on my list of things to grow. Here is a Capsicum frutescens or bird pepper.
I'm growing Bell Peppers, Cayanee, they've grown well but not produced much fruit I've only haad 5/6 of each of them, could of started them too late in the year, bout april time in the uk ???
