hi ya'll! i just moved to new york city from oregon and have no idea where to buy simple, inexpensive baby dress patterns. i don't see a ragshop or joanne's. where do you go to buy your patterns? i couldn't even find any online! i found simplicity patterns but didn't like any of them. i am looking for basic, cheapie patterns. also, this is a connundrum i can't figure out. so, suppose you buy a pattern that comes in a 4 size range. you want to make the smallest. so you cut the pattern to the smallest size, right? but what happens when the child grows four months later? you need to buy a whole new pattern? what are some strategies you employ for using the pattern over and over? what do you copy it onto? thanks!
personally, i dont use patterns except for getting ideas. i believe most people use freezer paper, or butcher paper or something like that to trace and cut out. i learned to make clothes from "the illustrated hassle free make your own clothes book" i love that book. i dont like to pin things, which is why paper patterns are a no no for me.
i would love to make my own, but most of these dresses are for a baby who lives across the world. i don't have any babies around, and thus nothing to rely on for size. that's why i need some good simple pattern, and then i can take off from there.
Do you have access to a library? Or any thrift stores that sell books for cheap? I've gotten many ideas and patterns that way.
ok can anybody suggest any books to refer? it would be really helpful. ill search for it in the library
