Okay, so, sometimes I hear things right before going to sleep. It's not that I'm already asleep, I'm completely awake. Sometimes it happens throughout the day, but usually when I'm trying to go to sleep. It keeps me from being able to sleep from a long time. No drugs, or anything. It sounds like someone screaming mostly. But I also hear dogs barking or doors slamming. Always really loud. When they start it is so loud and startling that it causes me to jump. I know that they are not real noises when they are happening since they seem to be coming straight from my head. Like, I hear the noise originate in my head, if that makes sense. I also hear a high pitch whine in my head all the time, never stops. I often think people are talking when they haven't said anything. It's so quiet that I can't make out words when that happens, just a whisper of a noise. I dunno if anyone else deals with this, but if you know what it is, that would be helpful.:D

I know what you are talking about, although the sounds I mainly experience are people talking or singing, usually in strange languages. It only happens when I am in that weird semi-state between being awake and asleep.
It never has really bothered me, as I've always understood the sounds to simply be an aspect of the state I was in, but as far as what the voices actually are, I haven't a clue.

Same. When I'm halfway between being asleep and being awake as I'm trying to fall asleep, I will every once in awhile feel like I hear someone say something. Happens to me every great once in awhile but only when I'm in that semi-sleep state.

Well, for me, sometimes it happens when I'm half way asleep. But, often I'm wide awake when this happens.

Sometimes when I'm wide awake, if I'm just sort of sitting quietly or meditating or laying in bed and no one is around I'll sort of notice sounds I don't really hear when I'm watching tv or too busy to notice, like from ceiling fasn or next door neighbors using water or watching tv (apartment.)

For example a particular ceiling fan in my old house, if you had it on highest setting, the sound from the air resonating off the fans blades made this kind of whining noise that almost sounded like someone screaming or yelling.

The noise freaked me out big time at first, but then I figured it went away if you just turned the fan down or off.

Long story short, is it possible there are household appliances making the noises? Thats what happened with me anyway.

No, that's not a possibility. These are very obvious sounds and they are coming from my head, not from the outside world. They are definitly hallucinations.

i hate that shit, why did that fucking farmer keep calling my name. unless you're running away from imaginary people who make those imaginary voices its not a problem.

It is a problem if I can't sleep because people are screaming and slamming doors in my head! It sucks.

I don't know much about that. I hear of people getting hallucinations before falling asleep. They're called hypnogognic I think. Something like that. I don't get that but I get something called hypnopompic hallucinations which occur when I first wake it. Its scary. I only get it if I wake up while its dark out. I'll usually see shapes of spiders and claws right above me. Sometimes I'll see a demonic looking face. Whatever it is, it scares the piss out of me and I feel paralyzed. I'm unable to move or make a sound. The first time I seen it I tried to get up and scream but I felt like someone was holding me down and I felt like only air cold escape from my mouth. I'll be fully awake and my eyes will be open but I'm still dreaming. This isn't a mental disorder or some kind of schizophrenia. It can be common but the pompic is less common than the gognic. But this is something thats common with people. What's weird is, I've looked it up online and everyone agrees they hallucinate something frightening. No one ever experiences happy hallucinations. Nobody says they hallucinate angels or unicorns or Johnny Depp. It's always something evil and it feels evil. I never even have nightmares but when I wake up, I'm terrified.

I have a quick question. Are the noises actually loud, or are you just perceiving them as loud because you are used to the noises you are hearing being associated with loudness?
I've noticed that with mine, it's almost like my (inner) ears have a volume control that is directly connected to how much I pay attention to the noises, or how much validity I assign them.
I can tune into them and hear them so loudly that I will be startled, or I can initially hear them buzzing, and just softly ride on their currents to the land of dreams.

Hypnagogic hallucinations only occur during sleep paralysis. These types of hallucinations aren't what she is talking about, but I've experienced both of them.
The very first time it happened to me, I experienced a woman with a beautiful voice singing the most sublime melody in an unrecognizable language right next to my ear. This isn't terrifying in the traditional sense, but I was very afraid because I didn't know what was going on and I couldn't even open my eyes to see who was singing next to me.
Since then, I've experienced all kinds of things, from dark, hooded, imposing figures standing over my bed, to giant neon grids holding reality into place.
The thing is, you don't need to be afraid of these things. If you are afraid, your first instinct is going to be to run, which you can't do, since you are paralyzed. It's very frightening to be laying there, witnessing some horrendous monstrosity looming over your bed, and being completely unable to move. However, if you learn to not fear these things in the first place, all of this will just become a non-issue. Additionally, if you find yourself in a hynagogic state, you have been given a perfect opportunity to initiate a lucid dream. Just close your eyes to whatever is going on around you and tell yourself you are going back to sleep. In my experience, 90% of the time this results in me finding myself in a lucid dream, which most people will agree is a very desirable experience.

i have had these from marijuana and a month after quitting smoking, i still have them.
today, i was at a restaurant. and i get very nervous around places where i have to deal with background music and people, because i feel as though i might get lost in the music and tune out of everything else.
i thought i started to hear chanting, women's voices, lifting into the air. i looked around to see if any group of girls got up to start singing, but there was nothing. i tried figuring out the source of the chanting--was it the music or was it the general murmur in the restaurant? I couldn't.
after a pint i was all right.

Fear is the destroyer of the mind.
Give into your fear and you give it power over you.
Fight your fear and you give it power over you.
Accept what you perceive and be at peace with them, don't let things like this disturb you.
Invite the fear into your being, observe it in the fire of your awareness, and burn like the stars until nothing but yourself remains.

They are only perceived, being hallucinations and all. But they are so loud in my head that they hurt my ears and give me headaches.

I've had auditory hallucinations on and off since I was a child. I used to hear my name called quite often when nobody was there, and I've also heard bizarre things at night while trying to get to sleep. Heavy footsteps and other such similar incidents.
It comes and goes, but I haven't really had any for a while. I have a feeling my experiences are probably more paranormal... I hope!

yes, many people experience these things. i dealt with it by relaxing about it, trying not to focus on it and not worrying about it, but just accepting it as part of a process for sensitive people. it hasn't happened to me for a long time now, although it could at any moment, but i don't mind and i certainly don't worry about it... hope that helps :)
