okay so, with kinda a spiritual leaning on it.

there are different belief sysyems, that use magick or what not, or the secret or whatever, whatever you dwell on it brings to you, well why cant that be with prayer.

it may not b e that god answered your prayer, just that the intense thought and emotion you put into did somethin along the lines of the secret or magick or whatever.

kinda weird, cause it is a supernatural argument against a supernatural concept, but hey, its just a thought.

why cant your answered prayers, if even "answered" be attributed to that instead of god?

I've never learned quantum physics from school, but youtube tought me a shitload xD

    Check this out:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfPeprQ7oGc

It scientifically displays a situation that has no explanation. And it's explained for kids so you should understand it....not gonna lie, I didn't the first couple times though

Or maybe it's just chance that something you hope for, actually happens. There's a 50% chance it will, and a 50% chance it won't. I like George Carlin's example, he prays to Joe Pesci, and he gets the same results as if he prayed to god, half the time he gets what he wants, the other half he doesn't.

Yeah. I remember a pastor explaining it: God answers all prayers, but sometimes He says No. That sort of thing drives people of scientific disposition nuts, because it's completely unverifiable and irrefutable empirically. I like Marcus Aurelius' position on prayer. If there are gods, pray only for the power and will not to need anything. That way, whether or not there are gods, we haven't wasted our time. "One man prays thus: how shall I be able to lie with that woman? Do thou pray thus: How shall I desire not to lie with her? ...In fine, turn they prayers this way and see what comes." In a similar vein, my favorite prayers are the Lord's prayer and the Serenity Prayer, because they are mostly self-fulfilling. In the Lord's prayer, we ask God that His kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven, and to be forgiven for our wrongs as we forgive those who wrong us. Those requests seem always to be answered. The only exception is a petition for our daily bread, which in my case I've also received so far, for which I'm grateful. Likewise, in the serenity prayer, we ask for serenity, courage and wisdom. To ask is to take a major step toward attaining what we seek. In a freethinkers group I attend, we have what we call the Resentment Prayer, in which we pray that happiness and all good things in life will come to those who have wronged us. The prayer is actually one for our own spiritual healing, and it works. (The fundamentalist atheists in the group are still incensed at the incongruity of praying atheists, but the progressive atheists among us say it anyway.)

Prayer is just reassurance anyway, that's all religion is, reassurance. When you pray, you're basically asking God for a favour, but they say God has a divine plan or whatever happens happens according to his will, so what's the point in prayer?

If someone gets what they want, they will say God gave it to them, if they don't, well, God works in mysterious ways... it's all just comfort for people. And I understand why people do it, people need comfort, they like knowing there's a heavenly father looking out for them, who has a plan that includes them. I've been in some scary situations and I've prayed, long time ago, so I understand the psychology of people doing it, but at the end of the day, it doesn't do anything.

i fuckin love george carlin man! hes funny as hell and makes so much sense.

but my explanation isn't to prayers getting answers and simply based on the assumptions that they do work and there is some "supernatural" force behind them

why not the secret, or magick, or soemthign like that, instead of god?

all are just as sensible explanations to some with belief in the supernatural.

i got with george carlins explanation myself, its just chance, but i was stating a explanation for a different view point.

  7. Yeah, the argument that prayer is useless just doesn't hold up. If you regularly pray, it will definitely change you. You have the right to experiment, plain and simple.
