There is a social etiquette that bothers me. It seems if someone gains some weight, then acquaintances do not comment, but lose a bit of weight and everyone seems to have an opinion and they need to share it with you. I recently lost a bit of weight and I felt attacked by someone over it. I'm not even trying to lose weight... it seems some ppl think everyone struggles with weight. I can't imagine going up to someone I only know a bit and telling them what I think of their personal appearance.... Terrible taste.

I've been thinking the exact same thing!
It's absurd how people seem to think that everyone struggles with their weight, thus need to be told what other people think when they lose some weight - intentionally or not.

yeah.. I hate when I lose a bit of weight and then some of my friends will be like "you look skinny" very suspiciously. But I used to have an eating disorder so I guess I deserve it

I'm super skinny. A member htat is banned used to like to make fun of me for it. So did schoolmates who now fail at life. I am 6ft. 125 lbs but very fit and my favorite activity is eating. I also enjoy canoeing, mt biking, snowshoeing and this is starting to sound like a personal ad but I'm sooo fucking bored right now I think I will go to the bar.

I think people sometimes feel threatened by another person's self-control too, and also kinda want you to keep eating coz it clears their own conscience about themselves. That's only the impression I've got though - it might be completely wrong.

When my mum came to visit last week, having not seen me for a year, it was the first time in over 10 years she has not asked me a single question about my eating habits. I don't know whether this means I was looking fat or she has finally got the hint to shut the fuck up and realise that if I had been constantly not eating enough for the past decade I would be negative space by now.. lol

lol! that's a good way of putting it Amy.

but maybe your mother can just sense that you are happier/healthier. It shows for people who know you ;)

Hehe...let's just say that if you knew the back history here you wouldn't make that comment! lol Sometimes she has been so insistent that I'm actually miserable and starving when I'm blatantly not that I was starting to wonder whether she'd be happier if I was. Before this last visit I had actually decided that if she asked me one more time if I was eating enough I would threaten to stop eating if she ever asked again, to remind her exactly what a not-eating person looks like.

    Aaah family eh :p

well maybe she's finally convinced :D

I don't even know what qualifies as an eating disorder anymore anyway :p
An eating disorder must be when a skinny person eats healthy

    lol!

    Yep pretty much.

I remember at school after I had got "better" but everyone was suddenly watching me with a hawk eye (despite having left me to peacefully go about starving myself when there actually was something wrong), I was probably the only one eating "normally"; all my friends were constantly yoyo dieting and puking and all sorts. It's called being a girl! lol :p

    Thanks everyone.

Amy, we have three girls in my family so weight has always been an issue in some form or another. But I have watched my sis's go down to almost 100 lbs in preparation for their wedding (I call it the wedding diet) and although my weight does fluctuate, it's all very natural weight loss and gain. Typically depends on the season and what I have going on in my life. Right now I weight 125 lbs with my BMI directly in the middle range... I'm only 5'4. BrayingDonkey weighs the same as I do! lol

I have never had an eating disorder although when I notice my close getting tighter, I start watching what is going into my body and adjust accordingly. So it kinda stinks when ppl jump on you.

I've lost 3 stone in just over a year, I saw someone the other and they were like "omg you've lost so much weight." Followed by a rather catty "coz you used to be really fat in the face didn't you?"
