http://www.instituteforhumancontinuity.org/ i saw it on a commercial yesterday and was utterly astounded at the lengths hollywood and the media will go to promote nonsense and attempt to create false fear in people..... yes its just a promotion, but things like this are what tin foil hats are made of.
If I didn't see the site linked to in the context of a movie promotion, I'd still think it was a joke. No real organization would have a site that slickly designed, and with so little real information. "Crustal displacements"? Come on.
gotta love sony pictures eh?! unfortunatley not everyone in this world can decipher whats real or not, many people live in shells of the media and believe what they are told. i agree that this is sick in a very bad way..
Erm, now you say that. If that is how you felt, how come it sounded like this was the worst thing that Hollywood had produced in 100 years. Read back what you wrote and see if it sounded like a "light conversation". If you agreed with me, why the negative rep'? Odd...
when did i say it was the worst thing to come out of hollywood? and when was the conversation heated? it was light hearted and a little sarcastic right from the start, i didnt realize i had to state that in order for you to be capable of comprehending that. i do think its creative, and i do think its messed up... i can think more than one thought on any given subject....amazing isnt it?! i neg repped you because you're always being a condescending fool and again....i reiterate, its annoying.... omg two thoughts on one subject....wtf are we gonna do?!?!?!?!!?!?! :willy_nilly:
I said: "it sounded like". It perhaps wasn't that heated, but it certainly did not feel that light hearted, it sounded quite serious. If you were being light hearted and sarcastic, fine. But, I picked up on yours and others comments that seemed a little paranoid. The general tone did feel like it was a tad ott. It is only an advert for a movie after all. Ofcourse you can... But pick out the other thoughts you had then?...and show me why I shouldn't have said "lighten up". No I am not. If you think "lighten up" after reading the comments in this thread is condescending...I'd ask you to lighten up even more...even lie down in a dark room for a while.
i do think its excessive, and i do think it could really mislead people but that doesnt necessarily mean im buying into the tin foil hat industry. why you shouldnt of said lighten up?! because no one fuckin asked you, we were trying to have a conversation about the promotion and you had to ride in on your high horse acting like you know somethin.... why must you always argue? are you really that miserable?
I'm with odon, "false fear" sounds like a pretty rough claim - not light hearted at all. In fact, that you said "yes it's just a promotion but" means you anticipated disagreement, and thought yourself ready for it - a major sign of a more heavy conversation. Anyways, I'm with everyone else that it's just a creative marketing tool, that's quite obvious enough.
*cough*bullshit*cough* im glad we're all mind readers around here and know exactly what a person means from a few vague words. apparently none of you have familiarized yourself with the hype surrounding it.
... there has been no hype surrounding it around here at least. No one cares about it, everyone thinks it's just going to be another crappy disaster movie. AND I just looked it up on Wikipedia - there is no mention of any controversy or hype - that seems a pretty good indication that there isn't too widespread hype anywhere. The most I've heard about it anywhere was one friend jokingly compare it to Welles' War of the Worlds. And I wasn't assuming shit. I was telling you. You're lying Either way, claiming something is creating false fear is no way to initiate a light conversation. It's a sensationalist way to stir up attention.
lmao lying about what exactly?! you really havent heard ANYTHING about the whole 2012 ordeal?! its here on hf too man.... do you live under a rock in L and S?! wow, im actually surprised that you believe a word of what comes out of your ass. theres a group already formed that is using the movie as they're platform to recruit people into their shit and feed them money...i believe its robertjames 2012.
I've heard plenty about the 2012 conspiracies, you did a poor job of conveying that that's what you meant. They have nothing to do with the movie, aside from the movie is inspired by them. If people use the movie to further them, big whoop - the KKK did it with The Birth of A Nation and all of America did it with war cartoons. However, if you are including the real conspiracists (did I just make a word?), this thread has nothing to do with "all this for a movie". There has been a growing population for the last two decades of people who believe in 2012 conspiracies and Planet X. The movie is simply capitalizing on that. They make no attempt to feed these theories or spread their beliefs (see: Battlefield Earth) - it's just a movie. If other people do do that, that's another story entirely - but all you posted was a viral marketing campaign that is pretty damn obvious about it.
the movie 2012 is either out now on, blu-ray and/or dvd now or, it soon will be. i saw a preview of it last night. the preview made that movie look somewhere between bad to fair. i'm quite sure i'll rent it. it looks like a cheesy hoot of a movie good for some laughs. well, what can i say, the world is full of people, who will belive anything. really makes you wonder, what a lot of people have in their heads for brains.
