    Wild Bill,
I don't know what the future holds, but I know everything from here on is up. There are only a couple of pieces now missing. Joel the Mole for one. Some day we need to make a list of all the players that passed our way. We haven't come all this way to fade away. I know that with all the creativity among us-- somethying is going to happen, but it's not about money which is only a tool--- a tool that must be respected, but not the goal although sometimes it makes you wonder.

Chris, got your e-mail. My idea for a doc is pretty simple actually. It would be each of us taping ourselves, recalling our experiences from back in the day. Someone (probably me?) would send out a standard set of questions/subjects to address and respond to. Then everybody would send the footage to a central location for assembly. With footage/stills/press clippings, etc. from back then added in it could be shaped into something. Not unlike Ken Burns' method, the guy who's mads the PBS documentaries about baseball, the civil war, etc. It would be good if everyone could shoot in the same format so conversion probs could be minimized. Maybe it could be augmented with a few days of shooting at the old locations. I could post it to a picture lock for next to nothing. Finding the time is my issue. The soundtrack is what would run into some financing problems. BTW, if any of you don't understand my terms here, don't worry about it. I can explain later.

That would work well!! Ken Burns! May as well shoot to be as good as the best!! I think your basic lay out could work and this way each one controls his/her story thus eliminating BS that invariably seems to creep into projects where people depend on others to tell their story!

Also with the technology available digital recording and formatting can be done in affordable methods. Digital cameras are everywhere and along with the questionaire, instructions on how to set up a self recording space at your own place can make this aspect EASY. How to sell stuff on e-bay teaches you how to be a expet DP! (director of photography).

Yep I agree that sound track may be the biggest hurdel. I WISH we could just play the music we want in the backgrounds of each of our Storys but after dealing with Managers of artists for years now, everyone needs their nickel these days! But hey if you get us that far in the project then I have a feeling that we can get that bridge crossed! Heck we can get Little Danny (spuds son and Tiller my son to do a soundtrack for us!) ALSO find Hit and Run Jam Band. JD, Buddy, Boggie Joe, get the old farts to score the DOC! ZEV too!!

Wow I still have my truckers in a plactic bag in my closet! Mostly due to the Odor of the Leather patch pants but also cause of the memories!

I bet between us all there is a good amount of memoriablia too!.

Bill my kids always bug me for not haveing pictures of so many times of back in the day. Of course they do not understand that there was some stuff that was just not fit for prime time back then...BUT NOW I think it would be great.

Also so so many amazing storys!. Days when Black Panthers recruted WHITE PANTHERS. When non flamable tear-gas burned down houses!! Just regular peace and love abounding!! But of course those RUMORS may not fit in.

And as Stacy was mentioning those who were part of this either who are currently not on this plane with us now get their props too. As mant times they are a big part of many of my memories!

Mary, Gregwah, Sgt. Pepper, Lincon, Creeps, Barbara, John, Joe, Dee, and all whom are not on the forefront of my mind are part of this story!

WB Make it happen! (lol) no pressure I offer my help if needed!!!

    peace/love

There was a handfull of us for sure Someone said at one time there were 500 or more. It was purtty nere impossible to recall everyone's names, ppl came n went. But the vibe we shared was unique in it's own right. It bonded us for life, for here we are a life time later still lovn' and doin' what we can to make a difference. Tho we have changed, we remain the same.

BTW for Mouseman and Patty I sent a pm to Skip, the webmaster about resetting your passwords. I will know something by the morrow. If you cant wait :) you can get a hotmail or yahoo account and re-resgister with a new email and a slight change in ID. If anyone else is having trouble logging in contact me at shameless_heifer@yahoo.com and I will try to help as I can.. Did Scorpio Kenny ever get in Ranger?!? Well I guess he didnt if he's not here..duh.. tell him to do the new email thng and re-register

Sorry I have been lagging, I have the flu.

    Peace y'all

    Spud,

Absolutely. So much happened each and every moment that it was difficult to sort out everything and everybody. I'm surprised I can remember what I do. That Salmon River expedition was pretty wacked out. While you guys were shooting up refrigerators, Aries Ron was giving Chief Hongisto and now Senator Feinstein the tour of the bust's aftermath. I wonder if she remembers catching me in full birthday suit in my bed? Hmmm. If I ever run into her again I'll have to ask.

    Chris,

Yeah, each of us give his or her own account. Could even be some conflicting recollections which always makes for interesting scenarios.

Good idea about the soundtrack. We might be able to get some needle drop rights (use the actual recordings) for cheap from some of the bands of the day like Quicksilver, The Youngbloods, It's A Beautiful Day, and so on. I doubt we could get a deal on the ones with longevity like Airplane/Starship, Santana, or Dead tunes. And I KNOW we couldn't afford CCR. Fogerty's music may be cool but when it comes to this kind of stuff he's all bidness. But the mechanical rights (re-recording with our own guys) to some of these tunes might not be so brutal. The way to woo any of the artists/publishers would be to get the picture cut, then put in what tunes we would ideally want, and play it for them. A lot of films have gotten deals on their music that way.

    Dana,

Cooking in Sonoma sounds very cool. And your daughter sounds amazing. An archeologist, eh? That is quite impressive. You must be so very happy with her.

The last time I saw Cyril takes a bit of prefacing so bear with me. In August of ’75 I was living with Cyril on Oak Street just on the east side of Divisadero. There was a police walkout and something like 95% of the SFPD didn’t go to work for three days. There were no cops anywhere to be seen. So he and I and a few other brothers hit this gas works company and made off with 11 tanks of nitrous. We spent the next week literally getting gassed. It all came to a crashing halt when Capricorn Linda took a hit and then died within a few seconds in Cyril’s arms. We had the funeral and her parents came out from Roosterpoot, Nebraska and took her baby back with them. After that things were just not the same. I was told then that the head injury Linda suffered after falling off the top of the back stairs at the Hole In The Wall in ’73 played a big part in her death. The doctors had warned her that because of the injury to the autonomic center of her brain it could just one day switch off and that would be it. A lot of speculation but nobody really knows for sure if the nitrous had anything to do with it. Anyway a couple of days after the funeral Cyril and I were having brandied coffee in the morning, exchanging small talk. Then he just couldn't bear up to the strain any longer. Her death overwhelmed him and he broke. He cried on my shoulder for a long time and seemed like an old, old man even though he was only in his mid-30s. He decided to take Boogie and go to Colorado. I moved out and got a place with Whitey for a couple months, then Virgo Steve and I got a place on Broderick. You were there a couple of times as I recall. I know Stacy came by but I think he may have been staying somewhere courtesy of the judicial system when Cyril left. Correct me if I’m wrong on that, Steven. Yes, Cyril could be a bit self-divine and absorbed at times but I was amused by it. He could charm the stripes off a zebra. He taught me a lot, sometimes without meaning to.

God, so many stories come flooding back. Which shall I share here?...Give me a minute...got it!!! Here's a tale that proved to me that there are definitely astrological influences in our lives. One late November evening a bunch of us were hanging out in the living room at upper Cole, having a smoke and some brews. The sun was in Scorpio and the moon was in Pisces. Everything was pretty mellow, going good, sharing the love. Then we hear a loud voice coming from the first floor of the apt. building just to the west of the Oak Street house.

The voice is that of some Frat Boy and he yells up, "Hey! You hippies believe in free love?"

Scorpio Ted answers, "What do you mean?"

Frat Boy fires back with, "We're gonna fuck up all the dudes and fuck all your women."

We pretty much blow the guy off and close the window. A few seconds pass then CRASH, a full quart bottle of beer shatters the window, glass flying everywhere, damn near cutting up Sag Diane who was sitting right there. Without a word, en masse and in a flash, we all piled out of there and down the front and back stairs to mete out a little justice to our new 'friends'. By the time we got there they had fled the apartment and had locked themselves in their 4-door hardtop sedan trying to make a getaway. We were literally taking the car apart before Frat Boy could start it and get out of there. Hydro had picked up an axe somewhere along the way and was in the process of turning that hardtop into a convertible. They were pleading for their lives, offering what were, I am sure, the sincerest of apologies while simultaneously fouling their trousers. We let them go as we were sure they meant it and that we would never see nor hear from them again. And sure enough we never did. Free love don't come easy!

Later I learned that at the exact time Frat Boy had initially engaged us the sun had moved from Scorpio to Sag and the moon from Pisces to Aries. We went back upstairs and burned a brick in the kitchen sink and played music on every kind of instrument and non-instrument you could think of in very thick cloud of herbal essence until the wee small ones. To use a phrase I haven't used in over 30 years...Pretty Trippy, huh?

Next time...a Mouseman story. There are some doozies.

    Love you all.

    Yo Dana,

You shoulda been with me and Virgo Steve when we met David Bowie at that place on Geary that served Steak Soup. He was my new best friend for about 2 grams (or 23 minutes if you're counting). Talk about glam. Snootin' toot with Ziggy Stardust? Doesn't get any more glam or pretentious than that.

Seriously though, you brought up a VERY interesting point. You mentioned escaping from an abusive sitch when you met the founders. I never thought about it much before but I would bet the bank in Vegas that 99% of us that pledged our hearts to each other came from such backgrounds. And Steven knew it. Consciously or not I don't know, but he KNEW! I would be willing to make a second bet that most of us came from a background of either a military upbringing or one of total dysfunction. I know that Mouse was under the thumb of some big shot admiral, Spud was the product of a low level highly racist and right wing bureaucrat. And me, I was raised out of obligation by some hard line Baptist politician in the buckle of the bible belt who was not even my real father. GE was the first family that ever loved me so I was more than willing to pledge my everlasting love to the ones that really mattered. Not dissing others but like Steven said we never turned anyone away, but it was not a free ride. That is why we remember some and not others. Those we remember knew that they had to be part of the solution. Those we don't were part of the problem. What say you all?

Dana, I have to ask you this. Do you remember Stacy's face in mid-argument/discussion when he would just be so flabbergasted that he would run out of words, walk away a couple of steps, then come back and speak his mind with an energy that defied logic? Priceless. He could be so pissed at me that I thought he wanted to choke me and then two seconds later he was the big brother I always wanted.

I came from an upper middle class family, we all loved each other and was nornal as a family could be in the 60s. I had two older sister that hung on the wild side. As the baby, of course I hadda be the one to venture forth and discover the truth about GOD, LOVE and why men always wanted to pinch my titties.
I was 16 when I feld a bad marrage and hitched a ride from Anaheim the SF via a Big Rig that picked me up on hwy 101 and took me all the way home, to a home I had never seen, but home just the same.

I had a 'calling' I had to obey, an inner voice directing me. It was like my iniciation(sp) to the BIG TIME. I ran with my little hippie crowd in Orange County and was Queen Of The May :). My sisters married wheeler dealers that had connections with Uncle Tim, aka Timothy Leary and had access to any and all kinds of phychedelics and smoke of every strain. I had probably taken over 100 trips on LSD-25 by the time I hit the streets and was dealing grass to all my old school chums that had blacklisted me a few yrs before bc I was a Hippie and they were straights. When they turned on, it was a whole new ball game as they lined up at my front door to score, before I ever got to the Haight.

I was a street person when I hit the Haight in 66. I lived in a doorway next to Love Bugers. That's where my education really began. It was Carnival 24/7. Every kind of human being walked past Love's dressed in a wild array of color and texture.

I was not scared, or frightened by the crazed look ppl had in their eyes of diamonds, I was not intimidated by the Bikers that hung out at Love's. I had had biker friends since I was 12. Rode on the back of Harleys and thought myself a badass, lowrider :) (think cheech n chong singing Lowrider) I was Baby Sister and not many messed with me. I guess I was the brother that my sisters never had..lololol. It was not that I was mean, I just dfidnt take no shit, didnt start none either.

I was at the Diggers for a minute but didnt like the strongarm tactics they use on the merchants in the neighborhood, nor did I care for certian "elders" treating the youngesters that were so niave and trusting like aminals. I did not like the attitude when Emmett would bring food to the Panhandle Park and throw it on the ground and watch the starving hippies scramble for it like animals, while he would scoff at them and make fun of them. I also did not like the Heroin Sceen, I did not like to see them beautiful young 13/14/15 yr old girls all strung out so the men could have their way with them.. There was no LOVE there.

I finely got into a house and hooked up with my future ex husband Cliff. He was a street man, who delt in jewelry and speed. I got pregnat with Jomie and we got married and divorced a couple yrs later. I didnt want to do speed no more n he did.

I left The City and went back down to SoCali to visit my folks. When I returned to The Haight a month or so later, I met up with some friends that were living on the corner of Oak n Cole, in the bottom flat facing The Panhandle. Just above us was The Black Panthers, Wounded Knee, and Good Earth. We accually paid rent to the BPs when they came to the door and asked for it.

I was living there at the time of The Big Bust 1970ish. I was standing in the kitchen when the LEOS busted in the door, all they had to do was turn the knob but I suppose it was more dramatic to bust it down instead.

I demanded to know why we were being harrassed n they said bc we belong to the Hippie commune Good Earth. I promptly told them we were not affilated with GE or anyone else we just rented the flat and believe it or not they left us alone.

We watch as they dragged crying women and screaming babies out of their houses and into the street, they were slamming the men around striking them with their batons and jamming them into the side of the buildings. it was armogeddon.

Then I saw a pig scoop up boogie and stuff him in the back of the squad car and boogie was fighting tooth n nail, he was just a little guy. I became enraged and Mercifull Mother ingulfed me and I went outside and asked the pig if I could take the babies. I told him it would be less paper work and less dirty diapers for them to deal with and lo' n behold they let me.

I took the Babies to Mama Kitten over to The Hole In The Wall, appearently they did not bust the Haight Street houses. She took them in. After they let the ppl go Shills came down n moved me into Underhouse, with Jimmy 'Painter', Count & Whitney. I was the only female living at underhouse full time. They all agreed that I was Underhouse Meterial so all my stuff was moved upstairs.

Underhouse was the Warriors of GE, well we were all worriors in our own right, but Underhouse was hardcore.. A lot of beer was consumed for sure I was not much of a drinker, but when in rome!!

I guess I stayed as drunk as the guys did. Judy and Bernerd kept an eye on Jomie as Jeremy was about the same age as Jomie and they fought like cats n rats but were best buds for a couple of yrs. in their toddlerhood.. they were sooo cute, them babies of ours.

Well, I did not mean to write a book here :p But the words just flew across the screen, so there you have it. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it ;)

WB got off the tele with Hap this am,,,,,Will e-mail you his number as he would love to connect!

Also.. After I got up to date on here yesterday, when I was thinking later on about site locations for Documentary Background Shots I was wondering if anybody(AV Related) knew if Louie had found anybody who he could resell AV to for the 3rd or 4th time? Not sure why I thought about this but it was probally when I thought about people who could offer sites to shoot for historical background.

Of course Louie would be a tad advanced as the rest of us are.

As I recall Louie had a knack of structuring purchase contracts that seemed always insure that he never really had to sell?? Could be another story about learning how to buy a ranch over and over again?

But I may be incorrect in this memory. And I have heard one of the MAX(never a GE,STP, Rainbow flo person) childern owns the Spuds and Riisa old place (I think ) .

Oh just a rambling memory......I am sure pictures exist of an AV as it was in the day of GE domanance??

    Peace/love
