Hey When doing opiates (oxycontin, percocets) my girlfriend whom I love very much starts to get very irritable mid way through her high. Does anyone know why this is? Is there anyway to stop it happening? Any specific substance? I have found that klonopin works, but not always because of tolerance build ups. Also smoking bud helps too. Please any help, or suggestions?
I've never had that problem myself, but irritability is a listed side effect of narcotic painkillers, oddly enough.
Ah thanks guys. Maybe some Xanax bars will help her not be so mad haha. Also I must add that this event does not always happen when I ingest oc with my girlfriend. Probably. As you guys said, a varying side effect of the painkillers. Thanks for the information.
It's true, opies can trigger anger and irritation..I've had it happen to me on codeine, hydrocodone, morphine, and oxycodone at random times. It's usually when I'm already irritated about something, but there have been times when I've felt good, then taken my stuff and then gotten irritated for no apparent reason. Got a friend who's level as can be and he said since he's had a script for percs for his broken fingers, he's felt edgy and irritable. Maybe there's something that's irritating her that you don't realize? However, I have heard of people who just get mad and mean on opiates...several people I know...they can't stand it so they don't take them. But yeah, maybe some benzo with it or if she likes weed, that should help. I've found that often times, I like to be left alone when I'm buzzin' on my opies, or if anything or anyone interrupts me when I'm trying to enjoy my high, I get really mad and want to snap.
I think the pills solidify his persistent crabby attitude... although for all i know he is a fictional character so who knows.
I find that it's not so much about myself getting irritable on opiates, it's my idiot "friends" who get more annoying when THEYRE high. Example; last week when me and my buddy were fucked on hydromorph we were making juice and my buddy kept trying to shake the juice but it kept spilling and I had to tell him like 8 times to put the juice down. Ended up spilling half the jug all over the counter.
WTF man? Drugging your girl cuz she is irritable? Man your cold. Here's a thought, maybe YOU irritate her?
yea i tend to rage out sometimes when i am really strung out over a longer period of time, they are just side effects of taking OCs. but the worst (for me at least) is urine retention. not being able to crap sucks too but i can get through that. but i can never piss on opiates. 50mg+ of oc and i have to squat to piss if im lucky lol. or else just hold that in till i can come down. and when your railing 80s theres almost no chance of me pissing. but your mood changes the more you do them and the higher your tolerance gets. but tbh if you have strong willpower just stop before your habit gets higher then 40mg. cuz when you stop you will go through withdrawal too. its justnot worth it. grab a joint and chill out. OCs are not for weak people, you will get addicted. but everything is mental. you can stop no problem.
I've gotten irritable on opiates before. It's not often, but occasionally i get really pissed off at the people around me. I've had trouble with pissing too. Not all together, but it's difficult sometimes. i dont have a huge habit either tho. but over all, the shits not worth the trouble and discomfort you go through.
Probably due to a slight allergy/sensitivity to the drug, which can cause mild brain swelling and resulting mood changes. Foods and inhaled allergens can do the same thing, though people often don't make the connection. If she also experiences severe itching, nausea, or dull ache between the shoulders/around the neck on opiates, it's likely an allergic thing, but none of that is necessary for it to be. The best treatment would be avoiding the drug. It's not fun to feel "pissed off" anyway, so why go through that? Second best would be taking an antihistamine of some sort 45 minutes beforehand and seeing if that helps. Claritin-D always does me right, but there's also Zyrtec and plain ol' Claritin...or if you're into sedation, Benadryl. Try reducing the dose of the opiate too. Alcohol does me the same way--makes me angry, dysphoric, headachy, and causes me to pick fights with people over nothing. Come to find out, I'm allergic to brewer's yeast and wheat, which are present in all alcoholic drinks except Patron. I choose to avoid alcohol altogether for this reason.
I know someone who has been on opiates for 10 years and they started having the same problems recently. She is not alone.
