Before i start, i would like to say that the medicine i use is for pain management.(should have cleared that up a couple posts ago) I do not like to take opiates for pleasure and hopefully when my back gets straightened out i can get off them. I in no way think any less of people who do though.

Anyways, I have degenerative disc disease and it causes me a lot of pain. Doctors prescribed tramadol (which is a godsend) to me. I take two a day and am able to go to collage, but sometimes i get these episodes where the pain becomes severe. I can't lay down, i can't stand up, all i can do is writhe in agonizing 10 point scale pain. I even cry at some points. Years before this problem arose, i was in a car accident where i did 2 barrel rolls and went to the emergency room. They prescribed me with some oxycodone and after i recovered i just put them away until i needed them. Since my diagnosis, when the pain gets severe, i take a couple of the oxycodone and can finally be at peace. I tell this to my pain management doctor and he tells me how fucked up people get when they use it longterm saying " you don't want to go down that road". All i am trying to do is get a prescription for it for severe cases and all i get is told not to take any of what i have and am now getting urine tested. I know i'm too young to have this condition, maybe that's why the don't find me credible, but i'm in pain dammit. I wish these guys could grow a heart.

yea kiss that dream goodbye... no docs gona prescribe a 20 yr old an opiate for pain unless you got a kidney stone or a bullet wound. dont ask me why cuz im sure your pain is justified. i think they think your gonna feed/sell them to your friends or something.

yup, sad but true. its not right, if someone is in pain they should be able to have what ever they want or at least whatever works, maybe not something as strong as say dilaudid but not something as weak as say t3's ..

DDD? Just take anti-inflammatory drugs. And as young as you are, the sooner you start with anti-inflammatories and real treatment, the better the pain and outcome will be. There are so many things better then opiates for your condition. They have all kinds of great, minimally invasive sugeries such as percutaneous disc decompression or spinal decompression that will greatly improve your condition (along with NSAID's and other anti-inflammatories.

Your an idiot lol... i didn't mean that he was so much younger than myself. I was saying that he is still young and should take advantage of that. So sorry you don't understand what you read.

I've had chronic back pain since I was 16yrs old. By the time I was 20 it was severe. NSaids and exercise worked great for me. when your young you heal better.
Doctors wouldn't give me shit till I was 30. Then it was just a few here and there.
Finally when I turned 33 and had a patient folder 6 inches thick that it gave nurses back pain just carrying my folder. They finally started treating my chronic pain and started believing me.
Personally I'm glad it was hard to get when I was younger cause otherwise I would have a tolerance so high that nothing would work..
Anyway exercise and hope it all works out for ya. Because you will have plenty of time in life to get addicted to these dam things. then you will be wishing you didn't have to take these fucking pills to have a life.:cheers2:

Youth has a lot to do with it. But some doctors are just a-holes and/or are opiophobes. Thing is if tramadol isn't doing the trick they are many things that can help you. I actually prefer hydrocodone for most pain and oxy occasionally. You can always change doctors. Not to ramble, but trust is very important when prescribing any amount of narcotics especially for long term pain. Be honest. Tell him your not selling them or taking them for fun, but you just need pain management. If you he still tells you no, move on. There are thousands of docs out there.

especially now, opiates are really starting to get abused. if anyone has a script for OCs they are lucky and have a great doctor. AND i live in canada. it should be very easy for me but its not. only chance i have is calling a buddy and paying 30$ CAD per 80. which imo is still good when u need it but let me tell you, when your tolerance is high and i mean like 2 80s per day (which for some ppl is nothing. i know some ppl who do 5+) and for me once i stop the withdrawal is horrible, aches, pain, cold sweats are the worst. its jsut not worth it. its only good the first little bit when u are not used to the drug. if your tolerance is high just stop, the more you go the worse you will feel. not to mention other things like urine retention and not being able to crap and raging out on people

I have taken neurotin and other anti-inflammatories, they don't work. I'm against invasive surgery because my dad had the same thing and now his opiate arsenal has nearly tripled. . I also exercise four days a week. Trammadol is the only reason i can go to college and be able to work out. But when i get a severe case, oc is the only thing that will help.

i am only 26 and my doc prescribes me hydros for my back, knee, and had a fractured tailbone 4 yrs ago and will have to live with pain 4ever probably.maybe you need a new doc.i am lucky that i am young and get them, and my doc is only 28.you just have to be honest, and if they ask you your pain level 1-10 even if it is a 10 never say it is a 10 cause they might just think you are trying to get meds.i had a ortho when i dislocated my hip that wouldnt give me shit if i had a knife at his throat.all docs are different.good luck.

i was in a very bad accident where i should of died when i was 25.after having multiple tests done(mri, emgs, mylogram )i winded up being diagnosed with basically EVERYTHING THAT COLULD BE POSSIBLY BE WRONG IN MY NECK
c3,4,5,6,7 are crushed between c5-c6 i have severe radiculopathy.(nerve damage ,which actually after years my radial nerver died, i have no feeling in my left arm or hand and im lefty.all my fingers are fold over and cannot open or be moved.anyway i was given anti-inflammatorys first which did nothing, then they gave hydrocodone which felt like i was taking sugar pills.did nothing for my pain.after trying every med on the market i finally have an arsenal of pain-meds. the doctors were bascially throwing meds at me aT AGE 25,I DIDNT EVEN WANT TOO TAKE IT BUT THEY SAID I WILL NEED THEM FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.I NEVER FELT ANY EUPHORIA FROM MY MEDS,JUST PAIN RELIEF.but now after so many years my dosages are rediculous and theres nothing stronger too give me.im on more meds than anybody in my pain management office.the doc says he never prescribes dosages like he gives me but my pain is so severe,im basically homebound..
i even have too get an eppiderral every 3 months cause even with all the meds my pain becomes a 10 without them . with all the meds plus the eppiderrals my pain on a good day is a 6.
he wants me too put a tube in my stomach so they can put the meds in there and i push a button like in a hospital too release the meds instead of having too take almost 100 pills a day.
my point is if you have a real condition they will prescribe you any pain meds you need

^^^ I agree with ya pain meds are not the answer for your condition. exercise and afet a few months you will heal. Save the pain meds for when you get older and really need them. start now and you will be fucked like the poster above me.
This is exactly why I don't keep upping my scripts every few months. I just deal with the bad days and greatfull with the scripts I get.
    Good luck
