For some time now I have been pushing the thought of "the creator" way out of my mind. I decided I would never know if there was a god and that was good enough for me. I was QUITE UNHAPPY ( coincidentally) for this time period .... I think that the mindset I was using was keeping me from reaching my full potential... my purpose in life. I took a reiki healing course this spring for which I received four attunements which were very spiritual in nature. I couldnt flat out refuse that there was source energy flowing through me, and still be open to the teaching I received. I have found now that I am open to it, I am seeing the little miracles in life that are giving me some sort of PROOF that there is actually SOMETHING with intellegence running the show.

I mean look at the intricate details found in nature! Tell me that the blood flowing through my viens, brain functions, resilence of the human spirit wasnt influenced by some life essence.

    Not saying God.

I think having the notion of myself being a spiritual being keeps me working towards the goal of my life's path... whatever that may be.

Is anyone else losing their agnostic nature and how is it affecting you???

I prefer to depend on myself, rather than any outside force for motivation.

    OK: it wasn't. :D

Just my two cents here: I find that the universe seems less obviously designed if you think that, if it didn't fit together just so, we wouldn't be here to observe it. Our whole perception comes from our experience of the universe, so our whole definition of what perfection is also comes from it. I guess the best way to sum it up is: if the universe wasn't perfect, how would we know?

Exactly. What if I can set my own goals? Based on my own nature? My own intelligence?

What if the miracles of existence were simply the outcome of material necessity? Or chance? What if I can be happy by my own work and relationships?

You've summed up my philosophy quite well, though I am an agnostic myself. I give some credit to the idea of a Creator, but I've basically accepted that there's no way of knowing.

Not only am I not losing my agnostic nature, but every day I become even more agnostic than the day before.

The more I learn , the more I find out about principles and mechanisms in nature that are confirmed to be unexplainable or unknown by brightest and greatest scientific minds to ever exist, the deeper my conviction becomes that human mind is way too primitive to get at the core of it.

I feel no need to deceive myself (certainly those who do are free to do so).

I do not believe in any manmade concepts about Nature or God that do not have empirical evidence or thoroughly complete, scientifically valid and tested to an acceptable degree a theory to support it.

My mind and spirit are content with this unavoidable uncertainty about the true nature of the Universe in which I happen to exist at this brief, present moment.

I'm more agnostic than I used to be, because Zen does not deal with the existence or nonexistence of a higher power. It has worked out well for me, so far.

Many people look at life and say "Wow, look at this, look at that! It is to complicated to have just 'happened'!"

My reply? So what if it is all serendipity (Kinda corny, taken from my padre).

Just because life is so complicated, doesn't mean there had to be an outside force. To me, it just proves how amazing our universe is and how amazing the rules of that universe are.

In terms of what will help you in life, believe what you want. If you don't believe anything, pick the religion that seems to get people furthest ahead in life, or the one that has the nicest people/food, and immerse yourself in it until you don't care if it's true or not anymore. I know this'll appall some people but I figure if you're not going to be the scientist who advances humanity that they seem to think every Christian has the potential to be, then fair play to you for not wasting your life looking for proof of no god.

I have full confidence that my little insignificant human brain has no frickin idea and even if I was able to meet any higher power I in no way would be able to comprehend her.

So I'll just stick to what I know, adults I can stick my dick into, food that tastes good, drugs that make me feel better but wont get me addicted, people I like being around, girls that have a couple happy kids (not the ones with the snotty ones) so I can visit occasionally and get those happy happy joy joy feelings without having to do that myself and thus can be assured deep sleep every night at 2am

It still sounds to me as though you're retaining your "agnostic nature," as you are not claiming to know there is a "divine" presence, rather you think there may be now? Forgive me if I'm wrong, and I do realize any term is largely determined by ones interpretation of it...but agnosticism basically infers that one is open to both the possibility that there is a "divine" presence (that word can be rather misleading) and that there is not.

Reiki is very interesting though...I befriended a reiki healer a while back and she was an amazing person, very in touch with existence and I personally feel she had much more an ideal of the cosmic reality than most...then again, who knows? It's actually interesting how science does not entirely conflict with it either. E=Mc2 and the law of conservation of energy combined blatantly state that energy = matter and vice versa, as well as the fact that energies "quantity" remains a constant. So, the idea that we can "tap" in to this energy that is ever present and use it to increase healing whether it be physicaly or mentaly is somewhat concrete. To which degree it can help and how to channel this energy is up for debate, and it takes an incredible amount of "trust" in the possible flow of this qi to allow for it to work it's "magic." (Perhaps it's simply a mind game?)

I gave in to the thought of this
Were made by the joining of our parents inwhich they become our creators. generally speaking our parents tend to love us and take care of you for the rest of days.
according to the bible the heavnly father created all and wishes to treat us like our parents with love and justice

I always bounce back and forth between more atheist and more agnostic - but neither ever seems to lose much true strength. Some of it's power just gets pushed into dormancy while the other has the throne.

why fall away from the creator god anyways. Isnt it more promising during christmas to have kept in touch with your family and or been good that year?

I do keep in touch with my family. Last year, during Christmas I spent my full wallet on presents.
I always try to be a good person, and I don't do it because I'm afraid of what happens when I die, or I want to be rewarded when I die, I do it because it's the right thing to do.

I'm not falling away from the creator, as to me, there is none.

Haha I knew the old agnostics would come out in full force to extinguish my awe. I still hate Christmas and always will, but I do love giving gifts and smiling at strangers, holding babies close and smelling their yummy fresh scent. :)

Just seeing the goodness in things and appreciating my purpose on this planet seems to make things easier to handle.

I really cannot doubt the energy flowing through me when I perform reiki treatments.
The cool thing is, we all have the ability as long as we tap in to it.

Bithizle... I do believe you are on to something though.
Maybe I still am agnostic since I'm still unsure.
I do believe in spirits and spirituality - minus the "god" part I guess.

I feel that I am a god - a goddess - or whathaveyou. I said that outloud one day while I was driving and my totally UNspiritual... unreligious... uninspired ... girlfriend became INSULTED!

I now call her the unknowing Christian.

I can't really say I'm losing my agnostic nature, since I'm a Christian, but I can certainly relate to everything you're saying. I consider God to be the most important thing in my life, the thing that gives my life meaning. That being the case, you might think I could give you a ready definition of God and some proofs of God's existence. Not a chance. I'm whistling in the dark like everybody else. I respect agnostics, because to be completely honest I don't "know" that anything I believe is correct. Reality is damned ambiguous. I believe in Something Big Out There for reasons similar to yours: the apparent fine tuning of the universe (which even some of the best scientists marvel at), human consciousness that evolutionists haven't satisfactorily been explained by any apparent survival value; the uncanny coincidences of everyday life, the sense of a mystical presence, etc. All of this could be explained away naturalistically, and there are good reasons for explaining them that way. Suspending judgment pending definitive scientific proof doesn't appeal to me, because science is pretty useless in dealing with questions of ultimate meaning, and I don't expect answers to be coming in in my lifetime. I've decided to follow my instincts and bet on God, while trying to keep an open mind, and relying as best I can on reason, available evidence, experience and intuition, while recognizing that whatever I believe will probably be partially or totally wrong.
