I experimented after someone gave me the idea, and I mailed one to myself.. Heres how I did it.. take cutting, and dip in root grow(cutting powder) place in wet perlite.. after a few day, if done correctly, you should have roots, Take out and bind the bottom in a plastic bag with the perlite, and wrap in a damp(not wet) paper towel.. put it in a padded envelope.. via regular mail, it shouldnt take more than 3 days to cross the Conus.. interstate mail.. At this point in time the clone is still in plenty shock.. but it is not dead. Immediately place cutting in soil Or medium and treat it kindly and it should work.. Thought theres a way to make a larger transporting box by using some tupperware containers with lids. There you can use all perlite and survival rate would be higher.. idk.. just tossing the idea out theres..
Lol @ posting to ya self. Good work though orison. I would.nt even bother rooting em I'd treat them like you would store cutting in fridge by cutting them long wrapping bottoms in damp paper place in zip lock bag spray with water seal and post. Once recieved simply recut and treat like any other cutting. Would of thought they could last 4 or 5 at max like that.
HI.. where you been.. lol, you think you dont have to root them? I was hoping to keep the cut area surrounded by the treatment and it was very small ball of perlite.. which got smushed anyways.. .. im a try that way too. see what happen.s.
I can not tell a lie spent last few weeks in a coma due to a bumper yield. Think ya safe posting local but anywhere else and could get sniffer dogged. Think both methods will work coz thats how some plants get imported as straight cutting or semi rooted plugs.
Lol i had a small glue that it would be a good yield when i had to put blocks under my set up coz they shot up. Gawd i'd of loved to of given blood lol
Coz I cant seem to take cutting to save my life at moment i'm growing 4x2 by 3 foot high bushes lol. We're just on the verg of natural bloom time here in uk.
Yeah I still got its and its still very hairy. I.ve bred from plants like that before an coz there weak not many of its genes seems to get carried over to the off spring yet u still get the typical f1 plants.
Always nice to grow ya own seeds, I dont breed under lights anymore all natural can even still get a half decent smoke too. You used to be able to get pots of rooting gel ya'd puncher the lid and place cutting in now i wonder if ya posted them soon as you taken the cutting if it would be rooted by time you recieved it.
There are several methods of shipping live plants, the grocery stores and nurseries use them all the time, but many travel refrigerated. But orchids travel just fine...so a rooted clone would probably survive. For a cut clone I could imagine a few clever ideas if I had to.
I saw this piece on hollands flower industry,, HOLY SHIT.. live plants by the millions shipped. Just see them riding round on pallet jacks with all these different plants. I had a neighbor once that ordered tons of different species of plants. There was always a ups truck coming to his house. he was old retired and died in his home alone, but really a nice guy.. I miss all the plastic pots he would give me after he replanted, "what do you want them for" "Oh my tomato plants" hed said "awe thats nice" I dont think he was dumb at all, he actually gave me advice on belladonna plants. I was just a kid, so I didnt have much want to learn then knowhows..
1) Take cuts 2) Put em in a bunch and wrap a damp paper towel around the ends 3) Put em in a small tupperware 4) Put the whole shabang into a vacuum seal bag and use your sealer to close it. 5) Place in a box and mail, USPS (not ups or fedex) priority or overnight 6) When the person gets the package they can root them as usual I've done this a whole bunch of times and, knock on wood, it's always worked great. :cheers2: Once usps took their time and priority took 2 weeks, still got almost 100% on the other persons end...
I have had good luck sending and reciveing rooted clones. I root them in peat plugs, then put the rooted clone in a tolitpaper tube, ziplock, tupperware, vacume seal bag, USPS.
^I've heard of that method before but never tried it before... much easier sending someone 1 cut of each instead of 4-5 unrooted ones, I could use those!. I'm gonna try that next time, thanks.
lune, your the one that passed it on to manic, that gave the idea to me.. but I lost it, so I did the best I could to replicated it..
