For the past two days, I cannot get a good connection to MySpace from my home computer. I first thought it was MySpace and when I went to work on Friday could connect with no problems - thought they had fixed it. However, when I got home found the same problem: All that crap that is normally spread across the screen is now just words along the left side, that overlap the other things on screen. My personal page stuff is at the bottom of the screen and I can't post bulletins or PM's. Connections are extremely slow. I tried it with IE 8 - same problem and it is not affected by their "compatibility view." All my other Webpages including this one work fine - it is just MySpace that is messed up. Any suggestions on what it could be and how to fix it?
I'd consider it a blessing. Hey does your home router have a firewall or something? Are you using someone elses wifi, perhaps?
No, using my DSL thru a wire and no firewall, just anti-virus and anti-spyware. It just happened suddenly two days ago and I didn't make any changes to anything.
Are you trying to connect to MySpace with bookmarks? If so, try to type in the URL manually. First, "http://" Then, "www.myspace.com" http://www.myspace.com Sometimes bookmark files can become corrupt. Actually, there are many trojan viruses that are known to modify bookmark files. It's possible the antivirus cannot detect it. Actually, there is no such thing as an antivirus that can detect everything.
Thanx for the suggestion, I went and tried that but it didn't work. Really perplexing, but your original suggestion may come to pass. I did some offline constructive stuff today that would have just been wasted time on MySpace. I could probably do without it, but I do have a couple of friends that I keep in touch with there. ---------------------------- Update: At about 11:30 pm MySpace came back for the most part, with just a few things not displaying and since they are thos annoying ads it is a good thing. Don't know if it was anything I did. Last thing I did was disable a bunch of Google toolbar stuff and rebooted the computer. This stuff is so complicated I don't think anyone really knows what is going on in this binary thought processes. Any wonder our current "fiction" of note is The Matrix and Terminator.
Apparently the problem was that MySpace did some kind of upgrade (prolly like that damned mail center that no one seems to like as much as the old one) and my Windows was out of date and could not accommodate their changes. All my other Websites continued to be on some old familiar software that was compatible to my old outdated Windows. So, for an entire evening I sat there while Windows updated, including IE 7. Now MySpace comes in as before, I can answer PM's and click on links. The reason I never updated Windows is because I suspected some of my software was bootleg. Sure enuf, now Windows keeps telling me every time I open Word that it is "not genuine," even tho I am quite happy with its performance.
Hi Shale, Ahh Windows and Internet Exploder. What a match. Please note that your browser's font size can be an issue if it's too big to fit images in. As a website bloke, in the early days I found it to be an issue before I made my coding more thorough! Gladly it seems you're winning the battle??? The only Microsoft thing I use is Windows! I use Firefox and Openoffice.
