How is Reagan behind Nixon and Carter? Reagan was a fascist who slaughtered hundreds of thousands of people in Latin America, made illegal money from drugs and rigged the market in favour of the rich. Bush Jr was a moron, but Reagan was the worst in my opinion. AND HOW WAS REAGAN WORSE THAN CARTER? Come on, people.
They say history is written by the winners, and Carter was followed by many years of Republican domination. I still say that Carter was a good president with a terrible Congress, who blocked his good ideas and left him with few accomplishments. Don't believe me? Go and read the newspapers of the time.
A president is only as good as his congress. Reagan laid the ground work for the Bush administration's assault on the middle class, so in some ways Reagan is the worst.
Why? In your opinion, what is he doing wrong? I think he's doing a great job and he's up against a right-wing that is going ballistic because they are afraid they're losing power and influence.
They do seem to smell blood in the water. My opinion is that it's being fomented by people like Rush Limbaugh and his ilk. They grasp at anything ... the "citizenship" thing, the "Muslim" thing ... it's absurd how they leap on the slightest scrap of controversy they can think of. The "you lie" thing is just the latest example. Disagreeing with the president is one thing. That's expected from the opposing party ... indeed, it's their obligation to come forth with their differing views. But to act like a drunken frat boy at a football game is ridiculous. Speaking of obligations, there's an implied obligation to respect the office of president. Even in George Bush's worst days, I respected the office and I respected the fact that, like it or not, he was the leader of my homeland. But be that as it may, it disturbs me a lot to see how polarized things are becoming. When Obama was elected, I thought that one of his strengths would be the ability to cross political lines and bring people together. We don't need to be polarized. I still fervently hope he will be able to do that.
He means Andrew Jackson. It wasn't "mass murder", though. Jackson was the first president to institute forced relocation of Natives to concentration camps.
Really? Look at what the dems in congress\senate are doing, they are intentionally giving the majority to the republicans. if they really gave a shit, the healthcare bill would have already been passed (in a way that would actually be good for the american people, instead of in a way that is good for their pensions see "american politics" thread in politics general section for an expansion on that idea.) neither party wants a strong majority AND the presidency, that means they have to make progress, and if they actually do they start to fuck up the VERY profitable status quo. they are parasites working individually, and in concert for their own good, and not the good of the people. the republicans are going ballistic, because that's the part they need to play to TRY to maintain business as usual. And they will succeed. Edit: and I'd like to throw Coolidge in as just, a sadistic motherfucker.
every president since LBJ... they've all been puppets. i mean, doesn't the majority of the population realise that corporations own and control amerika? no? ah yeah, forgot about that.
The poll should have listed no more than the last 10 Presidents ending with Obama. Many, and perhaps most persons who respond probably haven't lived through 10 different Presidents yet, and therefore must rely on what they have been taught about past Presidents, which often differs greatly from the view of those of us who have prospered or suffered during their terms. Maybe the next revolution will bring about a longer lasting freedom, but it looks like the U.S.A. is about to endure a growing form of Socialism for a few generations or longer, and perhaps even move to a one world form of government, before having to embrace Islam.
I'm not from USA, so I cannot really comment. I will say this mind... To all the 50% odd who said George Bush was the worst, do you really think someone as stupid as that is to blame for all of the worlds recent woes. The man was just a face, a name to shame. There are probably worse presidents (well, there were) who made all their own decisions Come one now, George Bush even started playing the stupid card by the end. I empathize, his daddy just wanted another go at politics, and saw his son as the silly little monkey man which he is. Mt ten cents.
I'm not from the USA either, so I can only give an outsiders perspective on the matter. I voted for George W Bush mainly because he left a huge mess that Obama now has to solve, especially concerning the war in Iraq and the so-called weapons. Too many women and chidren died for a war on terror - women and children who didn't do nothing to deserve that except being in the wrong place at the wrong time. L_S
nah, not teenage angst. just an opinion formulated through things i've seen, read, etc. guess i'll submit to your intellectual superiority.
