Got to watch this again on T.V. last night. I don't know why but I love this movie, maybe if only for its ironic critique of our own perceptions of what "reality" is in mainstream society. It always seems ridiculous to me at first that Truman in unable to see the faux world that he lives in. But then I remind myself that everyone one us plays an actor's "role" on this world stage that we live in (usually dictated by our ego). We aren't so different than the thousands of actors who deliver their cliche lines on the Truman Show. The ridiculous product advertising that is used on the Truman Show isn't much different than the consumer society that we live in where the "real" items of our culture are only cheap mock imitations of their true-selfs. A system where reality is simply a mesh of symbols force fed to us by the daily media hum. I also love this quote from Christoff when asked by a reporter why it took so long for Truman to discover the false "reality" he lived in: "We accept the reality of the world with which we are presented, it's as simple as that. If he [Truman] was more than just a vague ambition, if he was absolutely determined to discover the truth, there's no way we could prevent him." I wonder how many of us do not have the determination. Ignorance is easy. Anyone else like the movie?????
Yeah I love that movie too. Sick plot. It kinda makes me think if my own reality is fake? And in some aspects it is.
