I'm volunteering, and I leave on Wednesday and get back Sunday. I was going to volunteer with my sister and her friend, but now my sister is sick and isnt going, and her friend doesnt want to go now. so theres a good chance i'll be going alone... i wasnt planning on bringing drugs or anything but now that i'll be by myself i might want to... anyway i havent been there in like 12+ years so i dont know what its like, of course is a music festival so theres tons of drugs, i'm assuming they arent very strict about anything? has anyone here gone/planning on going this year? also how is going to a festival by yourself? like literally not knowing one person at the whole thing. for 5 days.
key word FOLK prolly a bunch of old people listening to backcountry, bluegrassy type music. id assume the drugs would be minimal in the form of alcohol (this is what i take from seeing the people who listen to folk or play folk a lot)
ive never been to the folk fest but ive always wanted to go...i was going to volunteer but i always forget to sign up and then plan something else for that weekend. ive heard their is a good amount of drugs there though as with any fest lol as for going alone, ive never gone to a fest alone but you shouldnt have a problem making friends...most people are nice at fests lol
i would but im going to a free festival in lock haven pa this weekend...i dont have the money for the philly folk fest
there's another forum member who's coming up to philly to go to that. i don't know her username, but her sig is like her (she has dark shortish hair) wearing sunglasses i think on a sunny day
I was in PA when this was posted and I know Im super late posting back...the pic was actually taken at folk fest...and No this folk fest is nothing like Purp thinks...Its a crazy good time w way more than alcohol. Did you have fun??? where did you camp??
Definitely wrong. there is a local 3 day fest in Sherman, NY every year that has tent camping in the woods, and the music line-up is largely folk/jazz/worldbeat/bluegrass/zydeco music and theres MADDD drugs there every year. there is roughly 6,000-8,000 people every year and you literally walk through forest trails and people are just going up to everyone, trying to sell, trying to buy, etc folk style music can usually be counted on to draw a hippie crowd, which is always a good time.
yeah, its called the Great Blue Heron Festival... highlight of my summer every year. theres enough people where you can still make 100 friends in a night, but still underground enough that there are no cops, and the security is very non-confrontational (a lot of security is smoking pot/tripping also).. i've been to a few festivals, and its by far my favorite, the good vibes there are unbelievable.
i had an AWESOME time, seriously it was the best 5 days of my life. well, four because the last day (monday) sucked, just really badly hungover and sleep deprived and packing up shit. i actually smoked a lot less weed than i thought i would, but i was camping with a bunch of older people (my friend and i were the only people there under 21, and the bulk of them were late 20s-early 30s). they drank ALOT though and i was basically drunk from friday morning till monday morning. i was actually passed out drunk during one of my shifts... we had 2 rent a cops with us as well and they didnt care haha i camped at Salad Bar, dunno if you know where that is... its a pretty big campsite (we had like 12 people camping there), right near watergate.
very cool. I was at a site right by camp stage like we could watch the camp stage shows from our "living room."
thats awesome. yeah if you walked to the left (facing the stage) up that muddy path along the fence you would have run into our campsite eventually. could you hear the music on the concert side at all?
