yeah........i don't know what i am, nor do I care.........all I know is i've been traveling the country for years, been babylonian rich, and poor, been to more shows than i can count, even more lots and gatherings........i don't listen to much of the mainstream 60's flower power stuff.....but i'm eternally grateful. I dress in whatever I have, everything from patchwork threads to wal-mart t-shirts.........who gives a shit, sometimes im natty, sometimes im not. the point is people are people..........fashion has nothing to do with anything and theirs no such thing as a poseur, just different levels of being. Some of the most proper kids i know are also some of the most clean cut.........because like it or not, if you have a family you gotta cowtow to babylon to some degree. try not to be so shallow.........whatever for whatever im livin lovin lovin livin and im not judging nobody..........all u gotta do is be.
I think that you should try stop judging them and try help them out. I mean we were all at that stage at one point! I'm not saying you should befriend or like them but if someone asks you a serious question, you should answer it. Just focus on what you believe and on what you know and stop worrying about others.
I do get annoyed seeing people throw up the peace sign and yet act like jerks. They do it to be different I guess. But for me as a Modern Hippie (Im not quite sure I can be considered a hippie. But I do spend most of my time with mother nature rather than shopping or having what you would call "fun" like clubs or whatever. I just like playing my guitar, smoking weed, looking at the sky. Also am for total peace and love. So It sucks people think you can't be a hippie or in sorts in these days. But honestly it doesnt really bother me. Im 19 to young to worry about that.
Haha, I think younger people worry about this more often than older but fine. Anyway, why do some people name all the hippie stereotypes you have in this thread when you can't be bothered with it. You don't think it looks like conforming? Just to point out the obvious by the way, everybody conforms of course in one way to another to something. It's not necessarily bad and certainly does not make you any less of a human or even hippie.
Funny, but me and some of my guy friends used to feel the same way in the late '60s when I was in high school. We were long haired hippies wearing beads and one ear ring, getting stoned, listening to the Beatles, the Doors, the All Bros, the Dead, etc. and we would talk about some girls who were suddenly hippies hanging out with us....over the weekend...and we would talk about how it took time and a lot of harrassment for a guy to grow some shoulder length hair but a girl could do it....over the weekend, with a few beads, some bell bottoms and bangles! Hang in there Beatle Girl.....I've been there with you!! It takes commitment to be a Hippie!! You must be ready to give the finger to the establishment at a minute's notice! We're not known as the Proud and the Brave for Nothing...!!
well even though not knowing a 60's or 70's band is weird when claiming to be neo-hippie, it doesnt necessarily make you not one. And on your part you just need to accept them in a way i guess, if it makes them look goofy or whatever, thats there shit to deal with and you gotta try not to be so judgmental towards there decision. If there good people and have good values, i say why not dress like that on there part you feel me?
not as hot as the real hippie chicks I find actual hippies are always a step more inventive in every way
I find that bogus unfortunately. Some hippies are and some other people can be too. Don't act like you're better than the average people please.
i was always a hippie, just naturally, growing up, and it irritates me now that these fakehippies are everywhere!|:< and plus, the clothes are cheap and fake. the only place i find decent clothes, are at bowlshops, and the affiliates, and the modernhippies tend to not know of these things, neither do they care about opening their minds or anything a real hippie would. its 'peace out' and all the same preppy shit it always was. but then, its rather enjoyable that i'm smoking all these fake hippies up for their first timesxD and they'll all give me five bucksEACH, when we just took one hit each from a bowl. tsktsk foolish lil girls
I don't mind being someone first mind expansion friend or whatever you wanna call it. I mean everyone has to start some where. and the word hippie is really over played these days anyway. in all reality it's not how you dress or look. You don't have to have to top fashions like the hottest grateful dead shirt or the coolest patchwork pants it's about the person who the person is ect. Highly Intelligent People Persuing Infinate Enlightenment
Dood, dat jus ain't Hippie. You should not be ripping off little girls, no matter how foolish they are. tsktsk on you man... ZW
Well, technically people wear peace signs wether they are hippies or not. The peace sign is more than just a sign, its a message. I don't think one should get too upset at the fact that millions of people wear them, wether they are from the sixties or not. The people of that era wanted to spread the word, & it's almost like we're destroying what they were working for by bashing others for wearing signs like peace. However, I know there is the people who don't know much of the era and the meaning, and call themselves hippies. No worries, those people will get over their "phase" fast. I couldn't help that notice your location in your profile is "Across the Universe" ... the very popular ( and amazing i must add ) movie that was out recently. This is one of the things that people go crazy about, and say they know & love bands such as The Beatles, when really they only know the soundtrack. It's people like this that annoy you, but like i said, they will get over their phase quickly. Just wait until Beatles Rock Band comes out. (Lord Help Us!!!!) To put it out there, I just think we shouldn't bash the people who do this. Let them enjoy their phase, their love for something they don't know - because it will quickly pass. It's not like the Beatles are some small band or anything. The Beatles are the most remembered and influential bands of all time!
I just want to say that in the last few months, I've been to a Dead show and a Ratdog show, and I saw an awful lot of jerks at these shows. I'm getting really pissed off at people who talk loudly on their cell phones during quiet musical passages. This kind of behavior used to be really rare, and I'm not referring to the cell phones, you know. BTW, my first Dead show was in 1973.
