some pretty lil shrooms here. they are a gilled mushroom about two inches tall, with the cap being about the size of a quarter. the stem is white with a vertical purple grain to it. no noticable discoloring when bruised. they were found in a area of mostly hardwoods at a elevation of about 1900 feet in the north georgia mountains. i am waiting on a spore print before i post on shroomery so i thought id throw these up here in the mean time since they are such a pretty mushroom. i couldnt get a decent picture of the underside and the stem but i figure they are distinctive enough someone should be able to identify them.. i did a little looking on the web and thought it may be a woods blewitt but upon further research they seem far too small for a woods blewitt. if folks would quit stealing our mushroom guides when they come to visit this would be much easier..
Those are fucking awesome! I wish we had those here. We do have some that are hot pink, though. Those are always a nice treat in the Fall. And just to clarify, you don't think these are psychedelic, right? Cause they almost certainly aren't. Cool mushrooms though.
no i know they are not psychedelic,at least im 99% sure. i am just trying to expand my knowledge of my local area shrooms and this is the first time we have ever came across these is all. we started a thread in my forum and are going to start cataloging all of them we run across in our travels around the property.
awesome shrooms. they do not seem edible in any way, in fact they look quite poisonous. they look ideal for making prints now though. you can pick on, cut the stem from the cap, and leave the cap on a piece of tinfoil of white paper under a glass (stop any air currents) for 1-2 days. Despite the distinctive colour of the shroom, the colour of the print (can be from tan to purple to black depending on mushroom) can provide further useful info.
thats the thing though, woods blewitts look about the same so i am not so sure they are not edible.. not that im gonna eat one till its identified mind you.. here is a picture of a woods blewitt. thats the closest i could find and the stem, gills, everything looks identical,, except i saw a video of someone foraging for them and they are about ten times the size,at least the one that guy picked was.. so i dunno. yeah, im taking a print like i said and then i will post all the info on shroomery. they seem to be about the best place on the web for getting identification.. if anyone knows of a better place please share..
OK ,, im now getting close to sure its a woods blewitt.. here is another pic of one. if so they are not only edible they are a gourmets dream. i guess they have to be cooked though because some people have allergic reactions to a sugar they produce.. i still want to and am going to have it positively identified though..
What's the Latin name for a woods blewitt? I can look up some IDs, and if you can get some pics of the gills & the margin and a little more ID info (if you need specific questions on ID procedures, ask, but I'll assume you know what I need) I'll help you out. I'm not great at hunting, but I can at least give you one more confirmation.
Those are pretty, I wish I got those. I get tiny bright yellow/orange ones. Also some that look like a bunch of chinese people in a rice paddy. Racist, I know, but that's what I see, it looks like those hats. I don't know how to identify shrooms.
lol, hey if thats what you see, thats what you see. nothing racist there in my book. we are very much novices when it comes to shrooms ourselves but we try and learn a little more every year. once again, if folks would quit stealing our mushroom guides we could learn more.. last night i found another shroom online that resembles it so i am back to being unsure what the hell it is...lol spore print should be done so i will see if i can get a more definitive ID at some point today..
