just spend your time while you rock the braids researching dreads and soak up all the information you need to know so you get on the right path and stay there and are happy in the end.

this forum definantly has every bit of information available. and theres progressions so you can seee what to expect while they mature

or.. section your hair yourself at home ( or with a friend) for FREE and skip the whole braid and $$ all together. anyways.. this is all I have to say:

i thought i did in my post, the braids are designed to hold tight. when you take them out, you have wavy hair, but its still straight and frizzies are to a minimum. if you dont have max frizzies, your not going to have dreads. frizzies are kind of what makes your dreads dread up. no tangling = no dreadlocks.

so with that being said, it is my belief that braids will only ever be one thing besides braids. wavy hair.

    Agreed

I wold rock the yarn for a couple weeks or a month and at least get your money's worth. Then take it out, and start over and try a method you think you would like best and go with that.

Do what he/she said. Those braids look cool as hell, though the yarn... can't say I've heard of that before. Rock'em, do research on the kind of dreads you want to strive for, and when they get loose, get'em taken' out and start your journey.

Ninja Edit: Wait, are those fake hair, like, yarn hair or.. what, someone fill me in plx

What the salon person that wasted your money/time was probably intending is that the new growth (i.e. roots) would dread up and then you could take out the yarn and the undreaded hair that had been in the braid would eventually dread and would already be sectioned. Sounds kinds stupid to me and like a waste of time... that's 5 months that the hair that's in the braids could be dreading... not to mention that the yarn won't be so easy to get out after 5 months. Do yourself a favor and take that yarn out and do another method... If you paid 130 bucks for those braids, then you got shitted. Just my 2 cents.

    Question:

If they are supposed to dread HOW in five months are you supposed to take them out? I'd imagine that like normal braiding, when you take them out you'll be left with crimped hair.

I don't think I've said this before but I seriously suggest taking them out and starting again. Most dreads are salvageable but these are braids and by taking them out on five months you're gonna undo the five months of whatever your hairs done.
It's gonna take a massive amount of time before these even resemble dreads. It'd be quicker to take them out seeing as you don't want braided hair in the first place.

yeah, that yarn is gonna be a bitch to get out, which the hairdresser probably intended. that way you'll have to pay her to take them out. unfortunatley, i think you got screwed. i'd maybe leave it in a month just to rock the braids. but take em out after that or you may have to cut the yarn out which you may fuck up and cut chunks of hair. then, you'll have to pay that bitch to take them out. do some research. look at the FAQ and figure out what method you want to use.
