Doesn't sound like useful advice to me. Um, would be easiest if you had a pic. :)

    Edited to add..

I do not know what a yarn braid is. If you mean she has woven material into your hair... then that is not good for creating dreadlocks. Of course it all depends on what you want.

leave anything in for a few years and it's bound to dread, but that said it may be several years quicker to take them out and start again. I suppose seeing how much trouble they are to take out will give you a good idea of how locked that are.

over time hairs will slowly come loose and start wrapping around and pulling funky moves. They won't look like they do now forever.
    Follow what pypes said.

Didn't you know you were getting braided yarn dreads until they were done eh?

yea, from what i've heard braids are braids, the braiding would hinder the dreading process from what i've heard. it makes sense to me. dreads are kind of your hair doing its own thing, and i would think the braids would make it a lot harder for your hair to do its own thing. also the lengths of hair being twisted around eachother probably hold your lengths of hair tight and together, making it harder for your hair to slip around and tie.

if i was you, i'd rock the braids, cuz they do look pretty good, for as long as i could. get your moneys worth seeing them as braids. while you pimp the braids search the internet and decide how you want to go about your dreads, backcombing, crochet, a lil of both, neglect. realize its going to take forever, and see what method suits you the best based on the information you find. if you go the backcombing route, i'd recomend backcombing as you take your braids out seeing as how they are already sectioned off for you.

and as far as the backcombing falling out, it sounds strange, but thats actually supposed to happen. they gotta come undone before they lock up.... as strange as that sounds.

and you will probly give up before they even get close

braids rarely ever turn into anything that resembles dreads

if you actually do stick to dreading with your braids, make sure you stick around this forum and start a thread to show your progression. i really doubt it will work, but i'd love to see if it actually does, as well as what your progression looks like and how long it takes to start resembling dreadlocks. still i think your better off going with a more traditional, and proven to work method like backcombing

i'm not really sure how they will ever be dreads.. there's yarn separating them.. your hair should be rubbing against itself to knot up.

    Waste of money

like i said in my first post. not a waste of money at all. she got a good service for a fair price.... as long as she doesnt expect dreads. wear them as braids, they look awesome, take them out, one at a time, use the sections to backcomb while you take them out. viola dreads... eventually
