Church of the Good Earth 1963 and Beyond

I need to correct something before I am taken to task. When I say the GE chronicles would not make a great movie I am talking about a dramatic narrative type of film. Sooo many characters with sooo many stories to tell would be overwhelming. A documentary would be very appropriate with interviews, pics, any footage that might be found, soundtrack from the time and place, etc. That would be way cool and a lot less money to make. But I am not good with documentaries. One problem we would have is getting photos of a lot of family members from those daze as we were all very wary of having our pictures taken.

And for good reason. One day I walked out of the small door next to the big garage door (closed) at Hole In The Wall and looked right into the lens of a camera being taken from the back seat of an undercover car. SNAP! Before I could even react the driver floored it and they were gone. I think I used the phrase "fucking pigs" to express myself.

A couple of names I haven't heard and am wondering about: Rotten Ron and Scorpio Ted. Ron was one of the most naturally funny people ever, and Ted...he just cruised along...most of the time.

We had a party one night at the Whitehouse and everyone was having a smashing time (multiple meanings here). There's this new girl there and she's kind of loaded, staggering around, seems rather harmless. Then, a couple of hours pass and all of sudden she and Taurus Barbara are going at it and Barbara is beating the living shit out of her. We pull Barbara off, she calms down a little, then asks the girl what her problem is.

She responds with, "I just wanna fuck some of the guys here." And, naturally, who could blame her? LOL!

Everything stops.

Someone, I don't remember exactly who, might have even been me , says, "What did you just say?"

She repeats herself. "I just wanna fuck some of the guys here."

"Right here, right now?", Ted asks.

She says yes and before the word can even clear her lips Ted's pants are down and he's on her like a mongoose on a cobra. There, on the living room floor, with 50 people standing around. At the time it seemed as natural as the sun coming up. Ted finishes up and who else but GaGa...comes in to pitch middle relief. He starts banging her and then...(DAMN, I'M BLANKING HERE)...someone, if anyone remembers who,please tell me, has a 2x4 in hand and WHAP! He smacks GaGa on the ass as hard as he can. In a NY minute GaGa is outta her and standing at attention. Well, after the ass smack, not all of him is standing at attention. He's pissed, but knows better than to go toe to toe with Mr. 2x4. Might have been Ted, or Sag Tom, or Taurus John, just not sure. Anyway, at that point, enough was enough and the girl was told to get up and show some self-respect for herself. She did, at least got up I mean, don't know about the self-respect part. Not sure how the party ended as I went with Barbara to her place and...well, I'm no Paul Harvey but that's...the rest of the story.

I'm glad to see most everyone got in. I have been away from the forums a lot, now that canninng season is dwindeling down, I can slow up a bit and have time to think.

Everything seems to hit at once. canning season is all consuming by itself, but the puppies came, then my sister Lynn got pancreatic cancer and I lost focus on everything else. I have been taking her to chemo and it seems to be helping.

Cheryl, Of course I remember you!! So glad you found us/we found you. You took care of Jomie for me when I was in the hospital, you and Annie. My mother and sister Marty came to get him and took both my kids back to Texas till I recovered. When I got out of hospital I was hooked on pain meds. I got over it soon and was back to my rebelous self in no time. I never did get a chance to thank you for all that you did for me and Jomie. Thank You!!

I talked to Shills a day or two ago, him and Beverley his Mrs are thinking about moving to Texas. The economy is more stable here. I am keeping an eye out for a little place for them to nest. Shills is retired and wants to do some farming

I feel our loss in our loved ones as we pass over to the next adventure. I'm glad to see the ones still above ground are trightening up and connenting here in cyberspace, well where else would we be. We did after all create cyberspace while we were floating through the cosmos.

hey yall. the 2x4 was carl ans chuck although i think it was jerry they put in the trashcan, carl also smacked polach chuck with a 2X4 by the cats craddle. its fucking awesome to actually find u all. wild bill will be emailing soon as so much to talk about with yall. Left Eugene about 12 years. Got burnt out on growing now work for a major chain no not wally world. been here in the south 3 blocks from the beach and Cakes even in this condo I'm still canning 2. Erika has lived with me 4 a long time has also lived with Carl but thats another whole story we.ve been divoreced 13 years but been apart longer than that haven spoken to hime for 4 yrs burn out. All the stories have been flooding back like Jerry says what a long strange trip but would nt have it any other way. Erikas daughter Sahalie lives with us , her other 2 lived with thier dad in Eugene Bubbas 15 and kolton 10. Sahalie is full of piss and vinegar too damn smart she got her own links and favorites and can acess them too. Lisa ODed in the '80s a wild one to the end. Last I saw of Cisco at least 5 or more years back he was riding with the Vagos in southern Cal. His sister Star is still living in SF with kids of her own,
one of my most colorful memories of the family and the Trading Post on Haight is the day Lisa was hanging out in the TP nursing Cisco wearing a very see through blouse and she had painted her tits bright purple with Jensenb Violet because Cisco had thrush mouth. An elderly couple wandered in and the old lady had the audasity to make a disparaging remark about the scene where Lisa could hear her. The next I know Lisa is up screaming and chasing them down Haight street squirting the old lady with milk from her purple tits red hair flying.

Shills is retired, eh? In my line of work I will never know what that word means. Not complaining mind you as I love it. I'm maybe going to Europe in the fall for a few months to work on a film about the sex-slave trade, then back here to work on some piece of shit that's trying way too hard to be hip about the L.A. lifestyle, actually it's more like L.A. deathstyle. The slave-trade film should be good, the L.A. movie won't be (horrible script, 100% shit). But, hey, if the checks clear that's all I need to know. That was like Nov. '79. Jerry stuffed head first in a garbage can always brings a smile to my face. What an asshole. He offered to sell me a guitar for $150, said his mom bought it for him in '58 and he never learned to play it. He shows up with it and it's a sunburst Fender Strat. I give him the buck-fifty and the deal's done. Had that guitar a little over a month before "someone" stole it. I know it was him but I could never prove it. I'm sure he repeated the scam many times over. Was Carl one of the people busted a couple years back in that massive sweep that wiped out Woodpecker and a bunch of other stuff? The DEA had been tailing some of those guys since the late 70s so they had more than enough evidence and testimony to indict and convict. Spud sent me the indictment and it was like hundreds and hundreds of pages. If they don't (or didn't) go to prison they're sure as hell poor as church mice after what the legal fees added up to.

Hey y'all I usually don't recommend movies but check out "District 9". It's got a lot to say about shit we care(d) about.

The garbage can was too good for that slimeball Jerry. He's the one who bashed my sister Marty's head in with the butt of a shotgun and through her down the stairs. I was at the Ranch at the time visiting. When I returned Marty was in the hostital. I did not know if she would live. When I went home. someone had let Jerry in, he was all beat to shit. I told him to Get The Fuck Out, and he whinned he was hurt and couldnt walk, I told his ass to either walk out or be carried out inna box and went to the kitchen to get a butcher knife, when I returned the room was full of the brothers and they were trying to keep me from cutting Jerry's throat.. Jerry had done busted me in the face with a beer bottle and smacked little annie around n now he done half killed my big sister!?! I did not get a chance to do what I came to do bc someone, I aint naming no names came in with a tire tool and drug Jerry down the stairs, all the guys followed in suit and that was the last time Jerry was ever seen at GE again. Not Jerry the Silversmith, the scumbag Jerry. Was that 72 or 3. Time was irrelavent back then.

I agree about old pictures, there were a lot of camera shy ppl back in the day. Diane has a lot of pictures from Oregon and a few from the Haight. I dont think she's inclined to come n share with us tho.

Shills got diabetes and had to retire earily.They're looking into getting a little place n farm a bit. I think he got inspired when he came to visit me last yr. He loved the farm and the country sceen. Now there's a man that has some stories to tell, and some not to be told no doubt

Cheryl, do you remember when you first got to underhouse and me n you got fucked up on reds over at Dimond Lou's. His wife got us FUBARed and it took us a hour to walk three blocks.. we kept falling down and running into opened garage doors.. lol.. not that we took downers at all, but they were handed to us and we swallowed them.. OMG, were we fucked up. I think we got a lecture from someone but I dont quite remember lol..

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who still cans their own food. I love the season, but then after 500 jars or so I get burnout and am done done done. It's hard ass work but very rewarding, well that is if I can keep the stuff on the shelves. My grands love the pickles so much that's what they want for birthdays and chirstmas.. The pickles, jelly and salsa seem to vanish into the night. The sqwash on the otherhand are left untouched..lol..

I have got my sister Lynn on Parsely Juice before chemo and it seems to be working. She hasnt gotten sick and she feels like it is cleansing to her system. She remarked on how slippery clean the glass was when she reised it from the juice. I have to admitt, it was sparkling clean. I am sure it IS cleaning out her system.

Next week I'm going to introduce Asparagus Paste into the program, and then Paw Paw, and of course intensive prayer.

I and my 4 year-old boy Jo-Jo lived in both the Fell St and Oak St. houses of Good Earth commune from Summer 1969 to about April 1970 - then went to Marin County. At the Fell St. House we knew Kitten, Carmen & Richie and all their kids, Bob from Texas and Virgo Chris, who had a baby and a relationship with Bob.
At the Oak St. house I knew Steve, Cyril, Courtney and others whose names don't come to mind. Also living at one of the houses was Nancy and baby Boo. I think Boo was Cyril's baby and he and Nancy were something of a couple.
I also remember going to Altamonte in a beer truck with most of the people from Oak St. Do you know how to get a hold of Nancy?

We need to talk Wild Bill--- this documentry your taking about is bigger than GE. The way I see it is we are a backdrop to a "cultural change" that has only happened a couple of times in history. There is a book called, "Bombs, Beards, and Beads." Its about the first youth rebellion in Europe, predominantly in and around Paris in the mid-1850's.
Wild Bill you aren't the only one thinking about this "shit." I recently graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelors Degree in Administrative Management with over one hundred and sixty credits. I've been steadly writing-- I've been published and won a couple of awards at college--- I write a lot about the streets--- good stuff--- I got a box full of "stuff", as George Carlin would say, "Where's my stuff, it was just here---In the process I've lost two or three boxes of my writings over the years as I went in and out of living on the streets--- I was never homeless, I was just camping out (smile). One of my poems is in here someplace, a couple of days back.

What ever happened to Mirretta, our Cuban Lady. She had a beautiful daughter. Speaking of daughters, I have a daughter, April Snow, I created what I considered as an attempt to give her a spiritual name in the sense of the American Indian spiritual vision, Spring Spirit. I knew by being my daughter she would need all the protection she could get. It's a long story--- life goes on. I haven't seen her in about 20 years-- one of the great sadnesses of my heart. Dana is another one--- sometimes it's hard to live with our past, if you struggle through it, that's what makes us who we are. There are no mistakes --- just lessons, you either live with them or die.
I missed the point, whose got family in Iraq of Afganistan. I'm a veteran, we just held a Homeless Veterans Stand Down which was a success.

Stacey, - do you remember the movie scene that was filmed / shot at the Oak Street House? My memory is pretty sketchy here, but as I remember, some film-makers from Sweden were making a "hippie" movie and wanted to film a drug bust scene. A bunch of us volunteered to be in the scene where there was a knock on the front door and one of us opened it and a bunch of cops burst in and started to bust everyone in sight. It was complete mayhem. I think we did a couple of takes and that was it.

But the funny part of this story is that later that night, the two Swedish film-makers showed up at the Haight Street House. I was there (in the kitchen) with Kid and Wild Bill. Cancer Nancy and I think, Maura were standing in the hallway next to the front stairs. I couldn't believe what happened. These Swedish guys did not speak any English and they kept looking over at Nancy and Maura and acting real weird. We were all at a loss and threw our hands up in frustration and said, "what do you want?" They looked at us and then both of them proceeded to pull their pants down and point to the girls. We freaked out and ran them both out of the house to never be seen again. I wonder if they ever made their hippie film.

i do not recall most of you.. but i wish i had met all of you..i do recall barbara and we spoke in email b4 she passed..i recall nancy of cyrils lady cause we cooked the meals on our day together,, she taught me lots of recipes.. i thought she was a fine lady..i spoke to picses patti but could not get her email correct,, will someone tell her please.
also am wondering about athena.. beautiful lady only 16 that year of 71..and almira also very youing then.. we spent many days downtown together..still am wondering if someone can get me the poster for the party at cowpalace.a photographer came and took it..i have great memory and recall where i wsas hanging out the window..shanti
