I'm going to give myself a wicked different hair style, and it involves chopping off most of my long hair and starting dreads on the back of my head.

Could i use the hair that i cut off with my new dreads? Weave them in?

yeah, but what you would have to do is to dread the long hair, then cut it off, then attach them to the back dreads, so it would take like 1 year +.

I think world peace had extensions in her dreads, but i dont know how any of that woman stuff works, plus it would presumably be the same length.

wicked new hairstyle will take 12 months plus just to make anything dreadlock looking to attatch the extensions you made to, and then the extensions will be of different texture and sizes to the dreadlock roots, its more trouble than its worth.

erm.. I know how you would do this but I'm not sure I want it to happen..

Random locks only on the back of someones head creep me out.

    ugh..

If he keeps the hair at the back of his head.. and backcombs it or whatever.. makes fresh lil dreads. Then take the hair he cut off and roll it around until they're are all roughed up, he can then start sticking them together and crochet them into 'lock'. Attach them by sewing them in or crocheting them into the fresh dreadies on the back of his head.

I used the hair that came out of my first set after brushing them out and made this creepy thing and then attached it to one of my locks in the back.

You could combine Chaos's method with this one: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=373535&highlight=science+of+dreads&f=209

And use soap to help felt the dread :)

Hi guys... thanks for are the wonderful posts.
I think that i've come to a conclusion about it all. I'm going to let the back of my head dread up (which I constantly have to prevent) before i do anything. then once i have some dreads in the back, I'll give myself a mullet.... maybe a mohawk too :)
then I'll try to weave some of the old hair (12 inches+ long) back into the dreads, because I have really thin hair.

But, have you thought that it might not look good, at all? :S
Like you're gonna have sort hair up front, and 3 feet of frizzy hair for a while, and even then the 'weaved' hair may fall out from tossing and turning when you sleep
