Okay, just a couple questions guys. So I've did the twist and rip shit like a week ago. Surprisingly they turned out well, I thought I'd fuck it up but I managed to do it properly. I was talkin' to my buddy who had dreads for like 4 years but he cut them a couple months ago. I was tellin' him that whenever I wash them they get loose and shitty looking, otherwise they look normal new dreads. So basically I wanna know if I should twist and rip them again after I wash them, or will that just be restarting the proccess over again? I've also noticed that they've been coming less loose after every wash so I think that's a good sign. The first two washes almost killed them, but the last 2 have been pretty decent. Also, if I keep fixing them (twisting and rippin) all the time will that make them take longer to lock? Because sometimes I'm just sitting there and I notice they could be twisted and ripped a little more and I start doing it. My friend also said "As long as the hair is seperated into individual parts they will turn into dreads, you may think they won't, but they will. It just takes a hell of a long time" Is that true or is that just his theory? He also says wax is a waste but is okay to use like once every couple of months. He told me to NOT use it unless neccesary. He said the only time I should use it is if I'm going to some fancy dinner or something and I want them to look good, then wash it out as soon as I no longer need them to look good. He also said to wash them once every 4-5 days for the first month and a half or so, that sounds kinda gross but he said that my hair will get used to it and not get greasy. Is that true? Thanks for reading guys, I'm really excited. It's gonna be a long year but once they lock it will be so worth it.
Don't worry too much about the washing, I'd typically wash every 3-10 days, whatever felt right. As for twist and rip, I believe you should keep doing that until they are nice and locked up.
Don't use wax - just use some hair gel, it's safer IMO. Washing helps my dreads lock up. Cleaner hair can knot better. I never did T-n-R so IDK about continuing it or not. Someone wise will chime in I am sure. Got any pics???
Yeah well you said they seem tighter after each wash so it sounds like its going well I almost cried after my first wash.. I'mma take one today
That's what he said. As long as they get stronger after every wash they are doing good. Basically he said that you can't really fuck dreads up. As long as they are separated and decently twisted and shit they will turn out great.
I used twist and rip as well. I waited about a week before I washed my hair for the first time, after my first wash they did come a little loose. I twisted and ripped some at the bottom that had come undone but after that I never bothered with it again. They will become looser before they get tighter and yes they will knot up on their own if you leave them be. Aside from the wax thing (personally I would never use it) your friend sounds like he gave you some good advice. If you want a neater look for going out you could lightly crochet some loose hairs and use some aloe to keep them down for the night. Wax doesn't 'just wash out'.
I just read it and it actually didn't answer any of my questions.... What a brilliant FAQ! Actually it answered one of them... That's slightly better than none of them I suppose....
actually every question you asked is answered should i tnr again? should i not wash my hair every day? if i leave my hair alone, will it eventually dread?
I didn't see that in there, I'll look again man. I already knew not to wash it everyday. And I'm just paranoid, and want to make sure that it will anyway. The FAQ just makes me think I did things wrong because it doesn't say it the exact way I'm thinking.
You can't think "exactly" with dreads, its not how they rroolllll The whole point is just to chill out!! You'll learn young jedi. Edit: Lol, dreadi... xD
......... :smilielol5: I know it's just hard for me to chill out, at least I know now that if I do nothing they will dread as long as they are seperated. So I'm not worried anymore. I'm just overly paranoid lol.
We all were, once upon a time You learn so much patience just forgetting that you have, or are growing dreads ^^
I didn't find that one in there I looked like 3 times. Is it good to tnr again? Really, I can't find it. I might just be too baked though. lol
