my friend O'dan from Negril, Jamaica called me up a few minutes ago to say hi. we were talking and i decided to ask him if the rastafaris in jamaica would see it disrespectful for a white boy to have locks. and through his jamaican accent he told me no, they dont care, they know that it doesnt always mean you are mocking their faith. yet, i still am not sure how they feel about white people being rastafarian because O'dan is not in anyway rasta, he just works at beaches sandy bay resort in negril. so hopefully no one needs to debate this anymore, i had one of the most friendly and outgoing jamaican to prove it for everyone.
All that matters is what you think about you and that you know you're a good person and striving for the right things, not others. If someone chides you for something as silly as the combination of your skin color and hairstyle or religion, don't give their words any thought and leave them with a smile. Try and lead them out of their ignorance by staying the good person and setting an example.
well considering it's an afrocentric religion started by blacks for blacks.... some might take offense.
I can see the reasoning Brother ... reckon the best way to avoid getting into a tangle is to not put an emphasise on being labelled. If a person feels a connection with His Majesty, then it doesn't need the validation of getting into a box ... Jah doesn't rank the tags that people create and advertise, equality is equality Jah Guide!
While here in Babylon people might see that as black supremacy or racism I see it as the simple truth. We all originated from Africa, this is proven scientific fact. Unless you discount all science, then the first people on this earth were black, and white skin is an evolution attributed both to different climate and the culture of Babylon itself. I am white, and I know that my ancestors before me were black. Rastafarianism is not a black hatred of white people, it was originally based around seeking to liberate black people from white oppressors, and I agree completely with this idea. Babylon as a whole seems to forget that our different countries and cultures are only there as a result of Babylon itself, and the constant wars and arguments between the people that it caused. The white man is only white because he seeks to be different from the black man. Most Rastafarians have a lot of respect for the white man who acknowledges his true roots and seeks to bathe in the light of Jah. Jah guide.
I-Man, you don't have to be labelled 'Rasta' to be committed to the His Majesty's Works, so there is no need to strive so hard to be tagged as such. Remember the original culture, the One Love culture stems from Creation anyway, it’s everyone’s heritage … so no one needs the consent of others to have a personal connection with The Most High. One Love!
