lol GEICO Pulls Its Ads from Glenn Beck Show

Great news -- yet another major company has acted in response to our campaign calling on Glenn Beck's advertisers to stop supporting his show. GEICO told us that they will no longer run ads during Beck's show.

This comes on the heels of news last week that four other advertisers -- Lawyers.com, Progressive Insurance, Procter & Gamble, and SC Johnson -- also distanced themselves from Beck. None of this would have been possible without the thousands of people -- more than 75,000, now -- who have taken action and signed our petition to Glenn Beck's advertisers.

From the press release we're sending out this morning:

"On Tuesday, August 4, GEICO instructed its ad buying service to redistribute its inventory of rotational spots on FOX-TV to their other network programs, exclusive of the Glenn Beck program," said a spokesperson for GEICO Corporate Communications in an email to ColorOfChange.org. "As of August 4, GEICO no longer runs any paid advertising spots during Mr. Beck's program."

"We applaud GEICO and all of the other companies who have stepped forward to pull their ads from Glenn Beck," said James Rucker, executive director of ColorOfChange.org. "Beck's rhetoric is dangerous to the fabric of our democracy, and we are heartened that so many big companies feel the same way. We won't stop here -- we're going to continue our fight to see that as many of Beck's advertisers pull their support as possible."

We're making incredible progress. As Glenn Beck's advertisers learn of his hateful rhetoric, and how deeply it concerns thousands of organized people across the country, they're deciding that they don't want their companies associated with Beck's divisive fear-mongering.

If you haven't already signed our petition to Beck's advertisers, please do, and please ask your friends and family to do the same (there's a sample email you can send them here). We're going to keep reaching out to Beck's remaining advertisers, and we'll keep you posted on ways you can help keep the pressure on.

Thanks so much for your support -- we couldn't do this without you.

"Glenn Beck is nothing more than a racist who is panicking because a black man is the president of The United States of America (and he did not cheat to get in office). He is CLEARLY putting his party (which is falling apart, making themselves look more and more pathetic as time goes by) before his country. The far right has always claimed to be the most patriotic bunch, until a BLACK MAN (oooohhhh, scaaaary) gets in office, then their true hateful, racist colors (no pun intended) come out. What happened far right? I thought it was "my country, right or wrong", and "love it or leave it"? Stop spreading your hatred you racist hypocritical nut jobs! Glenn Beck should not have a show, he should be institutionalized!"

Hmmm... I don't see how Glenn Beck is any more dangerous than any of the other talking heads in the media, whose purpose is to lie and deceive the public. I guess in this case "dangerous" means whatever the people making that claim don't agree with.

Glenn Beck is an idiotic buffoon, but to claim that he's "racist" shows just what idiots liberals are.

What did he say on the air that can be construed as racist?

Glenn Beck is basically a bad actor who gets on TV and acts like a phony televangelist with fake crying spells and everything else. He has said numerous times that people who question the government are dangerous and has compared them with terrorists. The guy is a total propagandist, but when people go after him for stupid shit, like claiming he's a racist, it only serves to make him appear more credible in the eyes of those who watch and enjoy his show.

the only people who are dangerous are the credible ones, the crazy ones, aren't really dangerous.

by trying to bring down the fringe whackjobs they give them protection of the more mainstream whackjobs.

No, the people who are dangerous (to the status quo) are those who tell the truth, which Glenn Beck most certainly does not. He mixes truth with lies and sensationalism to create effective propaganda. I can't really think of many people in the media -- "alternative" media included -- who give the full truth and only the truth. If that was the case, they probably wouldn't be on the air for long.

Also, credible is a relative term. What the dumbed-down public finds to be "credible" has little bearing on the truth if a person is informed and can think critically for themselves. Most people find the average talking head on the 6 o'clock news to be credible. It doesn't mean they're telling the truth. What is credible to some people is not credible to others, and vice-versa.

I don't think Glenn Beck is crazy, he's just doing his job.

Yeah, well that's stupid. I don't think Obama is racist and I couldn't care less even if he was. I don't think it makes Beck a racist, though. It just makes him an idiot trying to stir up emotions in people. If people are letting him manipulate their emotions, then he's already won and effectively served his purpose.

Credibility has nothing to do with the truth, it isn't relative, but, rather, subjective.

a "used car salesman" may say the sky is blue and everyone in the place will run outside and check, but, some, "salt of the earth, pillar of the community family man" says that there are martians invading, and everyone knows in their deepest souls what he says is true.

    THAT

    is the danger of credibility

barack obama wasn't elected because he's black, or pseudocharismatic

    although those contributed.

he was elected because an aggregate of the american people, which just happens to be represented quite handily by the electoral college (even though they do not in fact represent the american people in a statistic, or economic fashion) voted for his ass because young people, and people who believe what their CRT's and flat screens tell them, like oracles of old

    found him to be credible.

they at least found him to be more credible than john mccain.

and infinitely more credible than those people who questioned his nation of origin, and other factors.

    And you KNOW that's true

I've read you pointing out that art bell, and, fuck, what is that douchebags name.

    his son owns red bull?

Michael weiner\savage exist for the sake of wrecking the credibility of people who are questioning the verasity of the government, something they do quite well, and often, quite entertainingly.

    Credibility is a commerce

That's what I said -- credibility has nothing do to with the truth. It's simply based on the public's conditioning and what they have been lead over time to believe. That's why many people believe that what they hear coming from Brian Williams is the gospel truth, because it's "official," and well, if it's official then it MUST be true. Brian Williams is such a professional man. he would never lie to me..... nooooooooo.

Glenn Beck is not someone I take seriously. He's kind of a joke. He's been saying his right wing crap since the CNN days and it's more amusing than anything else to watch. Shit, Sean Hannity is the one that needs to be taken off the air.
