they do, thats why I believe we cán improve the world. A lot of people are narrow minded and use this as an excuse. Hippie to me, is I guess caring for the world, and really believing in love and peace, really believing the world can get better with our help. Being conscious about your share in this society: do you eat stuff that isnt attained fairly? do you ignore other peoples suffering? I think the hippie "look"is simply a way to express your love for the earth, and perhaps folklore, but you can just as easily be "hip" if you dont dress like it, because its about ideals.
And of course it's not only defined by the ideals because I know non-hippies having the same you just named. Some christians for instance. There are also hippies who aren't sharing the same ideals though, and are for instance more about the turn on/drop out part, or the arts and music etc. etc.
I don't even bother on trying to become a hippie. I'm saying that those people that were calling you a fake hippie are dumbfucks. I'm assuming you've never told your friends that you identifiy yourself as a hippie. I don't but my friends call me a hippie, which I don't really care. I just try to be myself Take their good values and apply them to your own life the best you can # rule of hippie... be yourself and make the world a better place Seems like you've been doing a good job with that.
Yeah exactly^^ But asmodean, its not only about the acid, thers plenty of acid users that arent hippies, and plenty of hippies that dont use acid. All about diversitiy of course, but someone with no preference of the art and music who doesnt believe in the ideals at all, but does use acid i dont think is an actual "hippie" if you may, but whatever right, because its about people, not jars of strawberry or peach jelly.
True, it's certainly not only about the acid, but my point was that it's not only about the ideals either I think someone with different or no clear ideals at all, but look like a hippie, dig the 'hippie music' and indulge into acid is just as much a hippie as someone who does has the typical hippie ideals. And at the same time all those indicators doesn't even necessarily make you a hippie indeed. I think it's all in how the person views himself. So, I guess that's why people always keep on wondering who's part of their subculture and who's not, sometimes even not sure about themselves
yeah you hit the nail on the head with that one! even we dont know for sure. I know people who have pretty much all that but dont wanna be called a hippie, and well personally I kinda dress like it and I find that peace, love and saving the earth are very important things for me to pursue. I've had many different styles in clothing, but I have always been a pursuer of peace and good things. But what are we worrying about would be cool tho, if the scene were as big as it was in the sixties, wouldve loved to just see something like that! lots of people with beautiful hair and music, nature and all that.. Yeah I sound like an ass, but I really would
Being or becoming a hippy has nothing to do with what you look like. It's all about the contents of the package. What others may think or say is just that. They have the right to their own opinion, but that's all it is. Remember, you can't judge a book by it's cover. It's all about what is on the inside. Being different in a fucked-up world is not easy.
my boyfriend told me the greatest thing yesterday. he said I wasn't a hippie in the way I always thought. At first I got offended and asked him what he meant. He said, "you have that hippie dictionary on your bookshelf. The true definition of a hippie is someone who is their OWN PERSON. That's YOU." I got quiet and had the biggest smile on my face! ....being a hippie means being your own person, bringing peace, tolerance and forgiveness in a "world fueled by greed, war and intolerance". keep being your own true self, mama! =]
A true hippie will never grow up, tends to live in the past, has a dream that " The Day" will return somewhere, someway......please! Peace, Freedom on every level, THE MUSIC, Friends of the same caliber, all friends, more music, weed, wine and more weed (or other personal preference). A feeling within of tranquility, belonging, that all is right with MY world, on the realm of true happiness/ inner peace......easy physical identification of your peers. The Movement To feel the same in this current era(or a close proximity there of) would be a fair measure of a modern, younger member of The Movement. Jimmy
For me, -being layed back with everyone i meet -accepting people for who they are and removing the judgemental attitude that seems to come naturally to human beings -knowing that even though people come in many colors, we all have the same color blood -Even though i do use substances (bud, shrooms, X etc.) i will admit i do it for recreational purposes, but also as a way to think on a different level and gain whatever knowledge i get from every experience -Jah Rastafari, Rasta teaches good principles i follow -Deffinately non-conformist, i dress how i want (hip hop style, long hair for my rasta beliefs, just my own unique way) -Pacifism (unless somebody i care for gets into something and it wont be resloved any other way. how any true friend should do) -Freedom to express who you are, and belief of equality for every human being -Being conscious of yourself, others, every action you do. Living by thinking of every outcome to your actions in the long run I could go on and on but thats pretty much what neo-hippie means to me i wouldnt in any way consider myself a fake (the type who just do it to look cool, make a fashion statement, or just because they use drugs they think its safe to be called neo-hippie) its truly a way of life and thats where alot of people go wrong
'hippies'' are an extremely ,violent people who insist on in-vading other s minds with an army ,of slogans such as 'peace and love'' and 'expand your mind dude'' most minds will accept ,what is given to them so it doesn t' feel like having war declared on ,you but yes hippies are one ,of the most brutally subversive propagandist ,groups around . ... hippie is more a label created to sell a.n image to in-secure adole, scents and to secure-them-into a pre-dic-ta-ted-able mode of ~ behaviour ! :grouphug: peace and love my brothers & sisters
This reminds me of this guy in my music theory class who can't believe I don't smoke pot because of the way I dress... It confuses me. I guess if you wear tie-dye you HAVE to smoke pot. Society is messed up.
Hippie is about reaching beyond the form of control given to us in everyday life, not to enforce it... I'm not sure how you got these ideas. And I fail to see what sort of "propaganda" is used.
Not being what society expects you to be. Living the past of a beautiful era 60's. As sadly cant adapt to this miserable warped day and age! Free love,Free Speech! Meditation,Vegetarian, vegan,Creativity,No war....Peace! it seems to me sometimes, i'm not sure if it's seems the same to you all, but 'hippies' seem to be a lot more accepting then 'mainstream' folk. i've associated with a lot more different sorts of people since entering the alternative scene and we all seem to get along well, regardless of what kind of clothes we were, how we wear our hair, what drugs we take, or don't take. whereas mainstreamers are more clique-y and judgmental... yet 'hippies' are apparently the bad influence/bad for society or whatever. this is strange to me. which in turns leads me to think that being a 'hippie' isn't any defined set of characteristics/dress code/appearance/conduct. it's a state of mind. perhaps. in any case, i'd rather just be me, whoever that is, or whatever that is labelled as.
I meant deflective and confrontation in a personal sense. edit: the issues which hippies are associated with, naturalistic rights etc, arent exclusive to hippies, but i think hippies seek them out due to the attractive purity they represent
Though most of those stand true, they all seem to be pretty sterotypical, being a hippy can be so much more than wearing a certain type of clothing or listening to acid rock and experimenting with drugs.
you know who you are . in doesnt matter what the eyes of your friends are seeing . you are the only one that can judge yourself . dont be manipulated by the power of your friends . if they were really your friends they would encourage you . keep it groovy babe peace
