Human population growth and over population.... overuse of resources, industrialization, the earth will soon no longer be sustainable... environmental studies classes preach about the threat of human population

    I agree 100%

In fact, one of the main reasons I'm pro-choice is because of my stance on world population.

We don't NEED anymore unwanted babies.

wrong. That's a Malthusian approach. Actually we're not even using the 1/10 of world's carrying capacity. People are creating a false paradigm to justify their over consumption of the world resources and riches.

America alone, is responsible for the %23 of all the carbon emitions in the world.

The richest 3 guys in the world have more money than the total income of the poorest 600 million people! In other words The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the poorest 48 nations (i.e. a quarter of the world's countries) is less than the wealth of the world's three richest people combined

If europe alone spent the money its citizens spend on pet feed, then most of the hunger and water contamination oriented problems in the world would have been
    solved.

    Want more?

Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn't happen

20% of the population in the developed nations, consume 86% of the worlds goods

The top fifth of the world's people in the richest countries enjoy 82% of the expanding export trade and 68% of foreign direct investment -- the bottom fifth, barely more than 1%.

A few hundred millionaires now own as much wealth as the world's poorest 2.5 billion people

A mere 12 percent of the world's population uses 85 percent of its water, and these 12 percent do not live in the Third World

Golf courses alone consume trillions of meter cubes of clean water.

Consider the global priorities in spending in 1998 Global Priority $U.S. Billions
Basic education for everyone in the world 6
Cosmetics in the United States 8
Water and sanitation for everyone in the world 9
    Ice cream in Europe 11
Reproductive health for all women in the world 12
Perfumes in Europe and the United States 12
Basic health and nutrition for everyone in the world 13
Pet foods in Europe and the United States 17
    Business entertainment in Japan 35
    Cigarettes in Europe 50
    Alcoholic drinks in Europe 105
Narcotics drugs in the world 400
Military spending in the world 780

I've taken most of the statistics from:

I agree whole-heartedly with you, Maes. I believe that the greatest threat to existence lies in the meaning of EXCESS.

The problem really isn't that we don't have enough, it's that we don't know how to share what we have.

It seems, that a situation such as this can only be rectified with a motion of morality and a higher understanding or awareness of life.

    Until then... we'll fight.
