Does anyone here have any good suggestions for a buying a new laptop that offers good quality/reliability and at good value? I am not talking about anything flashy here, just a bog standard laptop. As far as I know Dell offer about the best in terms of price and what you get. My girlfriend has one which we have been on the whole pretty happy with really, but are there any other brands that I should be considering?

I was wondering about Acer, anyone heard anything good or bad about them?

    Thanks:cheers2:

right now i have a dell inspirion, one of the newer ones... i think they start around 499 or 399... i am happy with it, i added a camera and more memory too it.

I used to work in a computer store, we never had any problems with Toshiba laptops, thats what im using now, 2 years old no problems. A guy I knew has one thats 8 years old, only the 4 and 6 key dont work. Dells are ok but customer service was terrible in my experiance, outsourced to india.

I have an Acer and LOVE it. It's a great computer and I've yet to have any problems with it. I've had it for around 1 year now.

I was going to get a Dell, but it just seems like too much to deal with. I want something the average joe can fix.

ThinkPads / Lenovo are the BEST.
